DROD:TSS is greenlit!
Release date: Spring 2014
"DROD: The Second Sky" is the latest major title in the "Deadly Rooms of Death" (DROD) series. DROD is a unique dungeon-crawling puzzle game. This series highlights turn-based strategy and tactics on a top-down 2D grid.

Each room is a handcrafted puzzle with a simple goal -- defeat all the monsters and escape alive. You start by learning basic mechanics and fighting techniques, and then the difficulty steadily ramps up as each room you face presents a fresh challenge with a logical solution. This game features a novel play style, with story- and puzzle-driven voiced dialogue delivered inline with hardcore puzzle solving that involves a mix of strategy, tactics, lateral thinking and lynchpins. As developers, our goal is to present you with a unique experience where game mechanics are paramount.

Experience with previous titles in the DROD series is recommended to get into and enjoy everything in DROD:TSS. If you're new to DROD, we recommend starting with our entry-level title "DROD: Gunthro and the Epic Blunder".

The story:

Guide Beethro Budkin, professional dungeon pest exterminator, as he goes up against beasties like the giant, man-eating cockroach and clashes with the clandestine Rooted Empire in a race to stop the looming Grand Event. Beethro is always fond of saying "there is no problem that can't be solved with a really big sword," but he will need to use a variety of fresh new weapons and tactics to win the day against a dire threat.

"DROD:TSS" is the climactic chapter of Beethro's adventures in the Great Beneath. This game is the culmination of years of development and evolution of the DROD formula. It is designed as a tremendously rewarding experience for the hardcore gamer. We are making this game especially for those who love puzzles and dungeon delving. It features a plethora of novel game and puzzle elements that you have not seen anywhere else, placed onto a backdrop of a weird and epic story full of colorful characters and engaging locales.

Main game features:

  • Over 500 puzzle rooms and 30 levels, each organized around different combinations of puzzle elements.
  • Over 25,000 user-made rooms available for free download!
  • Dozens of secret areas and optional extra challenge levels that lie in store for the more curious and adventuresome, uncovered in a variety of ways.
  • Varied elements and monster types like rock golems, giant serpents, deadly growing briar, and the living tar, each with a distinctive behavior and requiring different strategy and tactics to conquer.
  • Over a dozen new puzzle elements in this game, including new weapons and monsters with play mechanics that you haven't seen in any other game, bringing us to a total of over 20 monsters and 30 (non-monster) puzzle elements.
  • Journey across multiple overworld maps as you explore over and under the vast continents of the Eighth.
  • Over five hours of music, containing an all-new 120-minute soundtrack composed by Emmett Plant and synthpop artist Jon Sonnenberg of Travelogue.
  • An epic story, filled with a host of fun and intriguing characters, portrayed by a stellar cast of voice actors.
  • New and upgraded in-game artwork, with real-time lighting and a range of environmental effects.
  • Twelve terrain graphic+music styles, including Sandstone, Greenhouse, and Caldera.
  • Full-featured level/campaign editor, with custom scripting engine and modding capabilities
  • Active and friendly player community
  • High score competition and hint system via our CaravelNet service

@blizzedxu, thanks for writing us from China and for the kind words of praise for our games! We're excited about having the DROD games released on Steam. We have been spending the last two months preparing and polishing up artwork for badges and backgrounds for "DROD: Gunthro and the Epic Blunder". We've gone through a couple review cycles and put up new final art for review. Once it is approved, we should be releasing DROD:GatEB and DROD:TSS soon after. Thank you for your patience!

I'm a student from China.Perhaps I can't explain my ideas in a proper way.
It is an accident that I found the DRODTCB, then instantly I was attracted by the amazing puzzles of the game. But it seems that there are not so many people around me who know the best puzzle game (I do believe it woth the honour.) . I was quite excited when the DRODTSS came out. What's more exciting is that it would soon be available on Steam. I think it would be a great chance to introduce more people to this excellent game. I am also waiting for it because it is difficult for me to buy this game.
It has been many months since the first news.May I ask the progress of landing on Steam?

@Caravel Games, guys, is there any news on release date of the other titles? Thanks. :steamhappy:
Caravel Games  [author] Feb 16, 2016 @ 8:39am
Thank you for the kind words and for asking about CaravelNet and Steam Cloud. No, Steam does not replace CaravelNet features. If you want to login to CaravelNet with an active membership, you are still able to do so. Steam will support auto-cloud sync of your player data as well as achievements (analog to scripted challenges in DROD 5.x).
