Nuln, Bastion of the South [1.2]

The Lore
Nuln, the so-called Bastion of the South and the Jewel of the Empire, is the second largest Imperial city and the largest manufacturer and exporter of munitions and blackpowder warmachines within the entire Empire of Man, earning itself the title as the Armory of the Empire. Sitting at the heart of the Old World's southern trade routes, it stands as an imposing bastion, its fortified walls bristling with enough heavy artillery emplacements to arm a fleet of war galleons.

The Map
Nuln, Bastion of the South is a highly detailed lorefriendly (at least partially) big siege map (smaller map here) based on the city of Nuln. In this map of the city[]. It's also prepared to be played against AI and Human players. The map is divided in 4 districts, every one of them with a Capture Point:
  • Altestadt: In the north-east corner of the city. His capture point is in front of the Duchess’ palace, at the top of the hill. Very easy to defend.
  • Neuestadt: In the north-west corner of the city. Conected through the big bridge of Nuln with the Faulestadt district, and with DerHalbinsel district through a little bridge. His capture point is in the Reik Platz, in front of the University. Hard to defend.
  • Der Halbinsel: In the east. Connected with a bridge with Faulestadt and Neuestadt districts. Very hard to defend, as there is a lot of streets that allow an attacker to flank the defender and the Capture Point is near the walls.
  • Faulestadt: In the south. Hard to defend, due to the openess of his Capture Point.
Also, the Reik river is passing through the middle of the city, leaving only 2 paths from one side to the other.
To win, the attacker need to capture only 3 of the 4 Capture Points, so the defender cannot sit in the Aldestadt hill and wait the attacker to come and die.
Also, as a personal recommendation, use the tactical view on this map. It helps a lot.

How to play
You can play this map in two modes:
  • Land battle: Select the map from the "Land Battle" maps in custom battle. Easier to play in multiplayer, but you will not have siege equipement and the capture points do nothing.
  • Siege battle: Select the map from the "Siege Battle" maps in custom battle. A bit harder to play it in multiplayer because the other guys need to download the map first, but you can use siege equipement and the capture points work.

  • It's hard to put units in the streets!: The streets are for flanking and moving troops, not for defend. There are open spaces where you can defend properly. It's by design.
  • It's too heavy!!!: The map has more than 70k entities in it and has taken around 140 hours to be finish, so it's normal.
  • The mountains are not lorefriendly!!: It's the best way i found to continue the river outside the map.
  • Can you play this map in campaign?: Nop. This is for custom and multiplayer battles. Probably in the future will be added to the campaign, but not yet.
  • The units freeze but I can still move the camera!!!: Wait. The game will continue in a few seconds. It usually happends when you fight with a lot of units in the battlefield (+80) and your CPU is average or worst than average.

The Credits
  • Frodo45127: I did the map.
  • Bloody Hound: He did some ships.
  • LordCarmi: He also did some ships.

My maps are and will always be free but, if you are interested in supporting me with money, here is a donation button. I seriously doubt I get any donations, but if I do, all will go to buy me the DLCs I lack (currently, Wood Elfs and Beastman, and probably Norsca because I have yet to get money to reserve Warhammer 2....). Anyway, here's the button:

@KarlFranz This is a very heavy map, both in details and AI pathfinding. That bug happends when you try to fight the battle with too many troops and not a very powerfull CPU. In my case (with an i5 4570) it only happends in 4vs4 when the attacker starts climbing the walls, and only for like 5 seconds. Then the battle continues without problems.

So.... fight with less troops or upgrade your CPU. Also try lowering your graphics. Sometimes helps.

Quick question. Everytime I try to play this map it gets into about 2 min in the battle and the fighting just stops but I can freely move the camera without any stuttering. So I do not believe this is a hardware issue. Also I disabled all other mods and it is still happening. Any advice on how to fix it?

@Der graue Wolf Intended, please read the FAQ.

The streets are to smal to fight

and now we wait for this to become part of the grand campaign map-pack mod.

Fantastic work, the mountains are off, but eh, you work with the tools you have. Not like you're going to look at them much when actualy playing the map.

This map is cool as hell, my only nitpick is no Blind Pig sign anywhere (Gotrek and Felix, Skavenslayer)

Awesome job, I'd been planning to create Nuln for some time, had a rough lay out done but boy you did a great job. Fantastic work.

@Tod und Teufel Yeah, I know what you mean. I've saw many stories (mangas specially) using spanish words completely wrong too. But as I explained in the comments before, I took those names from the english wiki and from the map I linked in the description, and the... "German versions" of the names were almost only used in german websites so... Sorry for all germans who read the description, but the names will stay the same.

I do really appreciate the map and love to play it, thanks for all your work!

But there is one small detail disturbing me a bit: the city-district names.
I don't know what it says in the lore (I'm not too deep into it yet), but usually it would be:

-Die Halbinsel (would also work without the article)

I kindly ask you to consider changing this because for me as a german (and probaply many more) the current names sound horribly wrong *smiles*

If there is lore on that and it says the names you choose, please do not change it because we all love to be correct on our holy lore :warpstone: :D

Kind greetings and salutations :possession:
