Small Continents Deluxe

Description
Includes my other mods:

Less Ice on Maps
Optimized World Sizes

This script adds an entirely new map script, Small Continents Deluxe. Small Continents has always been my favorite map to play on (with a bit of tweaking). The maps are varied and I think they offer lots of opportunities for different strategies. There's a nice balance between focusing on land and on the seas. It also rewards diligent exploration, and earlier contacts can be made to enhance diplomacy/trade instead of playing half the game with only half of the civs.

Changes:

World sizes optimized and slightly resized. All other attributes of each world size are unaltered.

Sea levels reduced for thicker land masses (and more land).

Coast generation chance increased to thicken them up a bit, and even have a small chance to expand out to a 4th tile from land. This will really help out the existing cramped situations with early naval units in battle and also increase the chance for more connections between separate land masses for some fun exploration and making contacts.

Sea resources are restricted to a distance no greater than 2 tiles from land (instead of 3). This will make coastal settlement spots more flexible and also greatly helps to avoid having to acquire a sea resource that's 3 tiles from a city. The game's method for doing so is broken and it greatly deprioritizes sea resources within a city's 3rd workable ring and grabs useless, bare land tiles instead.

Reduced the generation of "foothills" which form excessive clumps of hills around mountains on the default script.

Disabled the "extra mountains" value which generates an excessive amount of mountains on the default script.

The "tectonic islands" option is disabled. I personally dislike tiny islands, especially in this game with the one-unit-per-tile rule. That land is better utilized as part of a larger mass. Plus, they use up sea resources and those resources can base their distance off the islands instead becoming further from the main land.

Grain amounts generally increased by 1 for things like features, terrains, etc. to slightly decrease clumping and very large areas of the same thing. More variety.

Ice: generation of ice is tamed and isn't as excessive.

Snow: pushed further up towards the poles since ice has been reduced.

Tundra: slightly pushed further up towards the poles, though, still plenty of room for it since there's less ice and snow.

Desert: slightly pushed away from the poles and potential area decreased. Rarely are there vast, endless deserts.

Marsh: modified to prevent it from generating too close to the poles.

Forests: modified to prevent it from generating within a small equatorial region so that it doesn't make a clumped mess with jungle. Also, greatly reduces the ugly combination of the autumn-colored forests with jungle. Also slightly modified to be less clumpy.

Jungle: slightly reduced and less clumpy.

Overall, this is my absolute favorite map to use. Lots of potential to get a continent all to yourself, without having to snag a gigantic landmass just to get some privacy as you snowball to victory.

No more shitty little cities on your continent, springing up like mushrooms after a rain.

Hey Digglesby, if you want islands look for and island generation mod. This is the best small conts mod I've found, so if you think you can do better I'd like to see it:steammocking:

Should be called giant fucking continents. Was really hoping more for big islands not giant contintents. not sure if you know what small means

Does this prevent Civs from spawning on the same continent when there are other scattered across the map? that's always made me /Mad/..

Stephan Reiken: try lod config after enable then sc go back, reload second time n cinfig then start a game. if that don't work try just with Optimized World Sizes or less ice one but with out (Small Continents Deluxe). or just use more luxuries with ethier less ice mod or Optimized World Sizes. test and work it till u get wat u need,

as for me less ice and more luxuries. Optimized World Sizes n Small Continents Deluxe may clash some other mods i got, but i take what i get.

I have tried but this is not compatibile with More Luxeries, and with that enabled the map doesn't spawn any luxury or strategic resources.

I'm really liking this map script. The land formations are really interesting, and the topography is "clean" and less chaotic. Awesome job, man!

Woo! This was the main reason I didn't use More Luxuries before :P
