If you've ever dreamed of sailing a boat in Arma 3 using the in-game wind to move around, now you can! Using [Dust]Sabre's awesome sailboats and my Paddle Mod, once you unfurl the sails, the boat will move forward based on the wind strength and direction to the boat. Different wind angles will cause the boat to automatically change the angle of the boom arm and foresail. You'll have to navigate to your destination based on the best angle of the wind. But beware, don't sail directly into the wind or you'll get stuck "In Irons" which will slow you down. If you want to sail up wind, you'll have to tack port and starboard to your destination along lay lines that you can draw on the map.


  • Wind Info Display Computer
    • Built In Compass (shows your heading and wind direction)
    • Point of Sail Indicator (changes depending on angle of boat to the wind)
    • Point of Sail Color Indicator (Green = Good, Blue = OK, Red = Bad)
    • TWA Arrow: (True Wind Angle arrow indicates wind to boat relationship)
    • AWA Arrow (Apparent Wind Angle arrow indicates wind direction felt on the boat)
    • Heading Display in degrees at top of compass
    • BSPD: Boat speed over the ground
    • TWA: True Wind Angle (indicates angle wind is hitting the boat)
    • TWS: True Wind Speed indicates the wind's speed over the ground
    • TWD: True Wind Direction indicates wind direction over the ground
    • Night Mode
  • Dynamic wind to boat velocity simulation based on real world sailing information
  • The in-game wind moves boat forward depending on wind angle and speed
  • Wind leans boat over port or starboard depending on wind angle and speed
  • Automatic sail adjustments (just steer and relax)
  • Simulated gybing! (be careful how you turn when sailing down wind)
  • Custom Sounds
  • In-game Instructions and tips in the Field Manual

  • Advanced Sailing Model where YOU control the boom arm and determine the speed of the boat.
  • Possibly a navigation system which generates lay lines for you

  1. Subscribe (including dependencies)
  2. Start game
  3. Access "Feint's Sailing Mod" in the Field Manual for Instructions (can be accessed during a mission)
  4. Place a little boat in the editor in the water
  5. Start the game > get in the boat
  6. Use the Paddle Mod controls to activate the killswitch
  7. Unfurl the main sail
  8. Unfurl the foresail
  9. Steer the boat with your mouse and/or keyboard
  10. Use the action menu to activate the wind computer and change modes
  11. NOTE: If you are using ACE3, it's recommended that you try both with and without ACE weather and ACE wind enabled as this definitely makes the wind much more unpredictable vs presetting the wind through the editor.

Slight problem which may or may not be the fault of another mod but im using ACE and required prerequisits amongst a bunch of other mods, the Yacht, Paddle and CBA work fine but when I add this to the mods (incrementally testing one by one) this seems to affect the "check weapon temperature" gauge from showing and the ringing in the ears from heavy fire no longer works, rather odd because I couldn't imagine what part of this mod would cause such a conflict.
Any help would be appreciated.
