"Mother of Vermin" Acheivement How-to Guide

The following guide provides a detailed description of how to earn the “Mother of Vermin” Steam achievement. The guide contains NO SPOILERS of major plot points/character details.

NOTE: I recommend attempting this process with the most recent update of “Night in the Woods.” Some earlier versions of the game on both Mac and PC prevent players from earning achievements.



The achievement can be unlocked when the stairs and streetlight are fixed above the entrance to the underground. This will occur the day after a construction worker in an orange vest is situated on the pole above the stairs.



To begin, jump on to the telephone pole and walk along the wire until you notice a building with a halfway-opened window. A hand icon will appear above the window.



If pressed, you'll transition to a screen in which you need to pull the tan windowsill up to reveal an open window. Activate the eye icon to go inside.



Once inside, you will continue until the end of the room, past the exit sign, into a room with a discarded parade float inside. After the dialogue, walk over to the visible gash in the float’s side and reach inside. Two white rats will be inside the float, and Mae will observe that they are hungry.



After this, leave the building and enter the underground. Progress toward the pretzel display on the lefthand side of the “Trolleyside News” stand and activate the hand icon.


You will enter a screen in which Mae explains that you can steal a pretzel if you don’t move whenever the shopkeeper looks at you. Once the pretzel is stolen, return to the room with the parade float.


After returning to the room, reach into the float to view the rats again. Give the rats the pretzel by moving your hand down the screen, where they will take and eat it. Once this window is closed, your steam achievement will appear as a notification in the corner of the screen and can be your profile.

Sorry, I haven't been active in a while. You do need to feed the rat your pretzel all three times to get the other rat-related acheivments, but for the "mother of vermin" achievment, you only need to feed the rats a pretzel once.

Emmmm, one question. Did you noticed that you need to feed your pretzel rats 3 times? Once in a day? Plz, add this info for this guide, Beetle.

From what I've noticed, letting go of the pretzel after taking it or touching the button/stick to move at all will get you caught.

Continue to do this for a few more days, and when the game ends you'll get the Miracle Rats achievement as well
