Tomatekh's Historical Religions

This mod adds additional historical (pre-modern and indigenous) religions to the base game. Leaders previously lacking a religious preference (Aztec, Greece, etc.) are updated to prefer an appropriate historical religion. Several additional generic icons are also included and the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox symbols have been updated.

- The mod is fully updated to work with both Rise and Fall and/or the base game.
- The strategic view pressure icons used in the religion lens are currently disabled and will be implemented at a later date.

Included Religions:
For a list of the included religions, please see:
Forum Thread[]

Configuration File:
The mod includes a configuration table in the "HR_Religions_Config.sql" file which may be used to toggle the included denomination packs, enable a "light" version of the mod, randomize leader preferences, and/or change the custom icons.

On a PC the default Steam mod folder is:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\289070\

With Historical Religions usually found in folder:

However, these folders my vary based on your individual install settings.

Note: If using the mod in multiplayer, all players need to have identical settings in the configuration table.

- Historical Religions Lite:

Too many religions? Edit the included configuration file to enable a "lite" version of the mod; Historical Religions will load with only a minimum of new religions (12) to represent the officially included civilizations. Custom icons may also be enabled/disabled separately to further reduce the number of icons.

- Denomination Packs:

Open the configuration file and edit the individual value entries to 1 or 0 to add/remove denominations for Buddhism, Christianity, Bantu, Hinduism, Islam & Protestantism and Andean, Baltic, Egyptian, Greco-Roman, Mesoamerican, Mesopotamian, Polynesian, Uralic, Yoruba, and more religions. All packs are toggled on by default.

- Option for Custom Names:

Option to set all religions not preferred by a leader as a custom icon.

- Option for Random Preferences
- Option for Alternate Religious Preferences
- Option to Disable Religion Groups

I would like to give special thanks to Sukritact for helping me figure out how to add icons, Leugi for figuring out how to do the overlay graphic, Zebenji for providing a French translation, and stevie-the-curious for providing a German translation.

You can try

Dessert Folklore or Religious Idols
Holy Warriors
Sacred Sites

Ancestor Worship or Fertility Rites
Ceremonial Burial
Peace Gardens or Religious Community
Sacred Sites

for the Mushrikun and Amatongo, respectively.

The mod should work with the expansion when it's released. The only issue is potentially a change to how the religion colors are handled.

What Pantheon and set of Beliefs do you Think would most Accurately Represent the ancient, Pre ~ Islamic Mushrikūn Faith of Arabia and the Amatongo Religion of the Zulus? Here are the Civ V Beliefs, since you mentioned you haven't Played that Game for a long Time.

Are you going to Update the Mod for the new Expansion when it's Released in February? I am Curious to see how Climate Change is simulated; it's an Issue that's almost never discussed in Video Games as far as I Know.

@Tomatekh: There's nothing else currently available mod wise for Civ VI that comes remotely close to what this mod does in terms of enhancing the games' faiths which is why I won't use any other similar mod. Also despite its complexity and depth your mod in my experience to date hasn't been affected by updates to the game, which has been a huge bonus!

well thanks in advance, i love the mod, but do look forward to that feature working again. keep up the awesome work!

I'm still looking into it. I wanted to include them in this update, and the update was even delayed a bit because I was trying to figure out. It just doesn't seem to work. Hopefully, I will figure it out at some point, but I can't really give an eta.

have you gotten yet or will you ever be abel to get the strategic pressure icons working?

Thanks! It means a lot to hear that people still use and enjoy the mod, even after all this time.

I should add (5) providing direct downloads of previous mod versions to ensure saved games are still playable.

I want to thank you for a few things: (1) making and sharing this mod, (2) updating this mod even though you haven't played the game in about a year, (3) providing detailed and clear patch notes, and (4) concisely and clearly responding to so many comments. Your work is greatly appreciated!

Assuming it actually updated (as Steam Uploader always gives me an error and never finishes):

- General changes to support Gathering Storm
- Canaanism, Pachaism, Tala-e-Fonua added to the HR Lite Religions
- Shia (Twelver, Zaidiyyah, Ismailiyyah, Alawites), Din-i Ilahi, Legalism, Spiritism, Palo added to the mod
- Several additional options added to the configuration file
-- Split up several of the denomination/icon groupings into multiple groups
-- Specific groups of religions can now be disabled
-- Specific leaders can now be set to an alternate historical preference
-- 'HR_CUSTOM_RELIGIONS_UNUSED' can be used to enable 7 additional (fully functional but slightly unfinished) religions
-- 'HR_CUSTOM_ICONS_UNUSED' can be used to enable 2 additional (fully functional but slightly unfinished) custom icons
-- 'HR_CUSTOM_ICONS_REMOVED' can be used to add the removed Insular Cross icon as a custom icon
- Misc. text and code changes
