Introduction
ASTRONEER is a game of aerospace industry and interplanetary exploration. It features randomly generated planets and simple crafting along with base building.

This guide will introduce you to the game, along with instructions on how to get started.

***THIS GUIDE IS OUTDATED. INFORMATION MAY BE INCORRECT OR MISSING.***
Getting Started
When you launch the game, you will be presented with a menu that looks like this:

______________________________________________________________________________

Choose which of the astroneers you want and click the middle launch button.

You will start to descend onto the planet, and will shortly land. This pod is going to be your home for quite some time, and is very important to your survival.

____________________________________________________________________________

After you have stepped out of your landing pod, here are the basic default controls:
W, A, S, D, to move around.
Hold Shift to sprint.
Q or I to open your inventory.
Left click to interact and pick up objects.
Hold right click to turn camera.
E to equip ground mining and placing tool.
Left click to mine with tool equiped.
Hold Left Alt to place ground with tool equiped.
Hold Left Control to flatten/smooth ground.
Tab to enter and leave vehicles/pod.
T to place teathers down. (After you have crafted them)
____________________________________________________________________________

Right away you will notice you are teathered to your pod. This teather provides oxygen to you and you won't last long without it.

On your back you can see a blue horizontal bar and a vertical yellow bar. Blue is your oxygen level, and yellow is your power level. Oxygen will deplete by not being around your pod, and power will deplete by using your mining tool. Also, you can use the buttons on the bottom to switch between which items you want to craft.

Basic Resources and Crafting
The most basic resource in ASTRONEER is Compound. This can be found very commonly above ground all throught out the world and is used in many important crafting recipes. It looks like this:

______________________________________________________________________________

After you have gotten some compound, go into your inventory and, on the bottom, craft some teathers and some solar panels. Each only require 1 compound.

After you have created a solar panel, you may either place it on the spots of you pod, which will provide it extra power, or, place it on the accessory spots on you shoulders, which can be accessed from your inventory. Placing them on your shoulders will grant you extra power regeneration.

______________________________________________________________________________

After you have done something with your solar panels, craft teathers with the same compound you gathered earlier. Teathers are essential, and are needed to explore the world further. They provide the same benefits as your pod does, giving you oxygen and power.

Use T to place down teathers.

______________________________________________________________________________

It's a good idea to mine any resources you find.
Basic Base Building
Once you have explored your world a bit, you probably came across some resin. Resin is very important to base building, and is also very common like compound. It looks like this:

______________________________________________________________________________

After you have gotten some resin, got back to your base, and click on the cylinder on the base of your pod that follows your camera around. After you do so, it should look like this:

______________________________________________________________________________

Take some resin from your back and place it onto where it tells you to put it. The tube will extend and you will need 2 more resing to complete that build. After you have done that it will look like this:

______________________________________________________________________________

This platform can be used to make many other useful things like, a smelter that converts materical into aluminum, copper, etc. A research unit that will open pods that you find around the world that have items or recipes in them. A vehicle bay for creating vehicle, and a printer for making more complex items. All of these units require materials like compound, aluminum and copper.

Another note, from your pod, you can access all of the items stored on the platforms and move them around, which is handy for moving stuff during dust storms. (Thanks @RedPine!)
Base Building Modules
Your landing pod can have up to 6 platforms (Thanks @RedPine again!). These different platforms can house many different parts that will help to craft and create stuff.

The most easy to make part is the smelter.

______________________________________________________________________________

Cost: 2 Compound
Use: Converting ores into usable materials like aluminum and copper.

Printer

______________________________________________________________________________

Cost: 2 Copper
Use: Making more complex parts for your base and vehicles, like solar panels, storage, and wind turbines.

Research Unit

______________________________________________________________________________

Cost: 2 Compound
Use: Opening research pods that can be found around the world. Grant the player special craftable items and will give rare resources like titanium and lithium.

Vehicle Bay

______________________________________________________________________________

Cost: 2 Aluminum
Use: Makes vehicles and parts for vehicles. The current vehicles are: rover, truck, shuttle, and spaceship.

There are more modules, such as the fuel condenser and trade platform. Info on those coming soon.

Trade Platform

____________________________________________________________________________

Cost: 2 Aluminum
Use: Trading in resources for other resources. For example: Put 4 rocket fuel in, get 8 compound out.

Caves
Caves are essential for early game resources. They spawn commonly all throught the world and are very extensive. They contain resources like malachite, hydrazine, laterite, raw oxygen, and raw energy. They also contain gas vents that will spew gas at you it you get to close.

Cave entrances look like this:

______________________________________________________________________________

The insides of caves look like this:

______________________________________________________________________________

If you are going to explore caves, remember to bring lots of teathers. It's easy to get lost in caves and not be able to get back in time, possibly leaving lots of valuable resources that were on your back when you died.
Other Resources
Hydrazine

______________________________________________________________________________

Rarity: Uncommon
Turns Into: Rocket Fuel
Found: Under ground in caves

Good for trading in the trading platform.

Laterite

______________________________________________________________________________

Rarity: Uncommon
Turns Into: Aluminum Ore, which can be converted into aluminum in smelter.
Found it: Under ground in caves

Used in lots of crafting recipes and buildings.

Malachite

____________________________________________________________________________

Rarity: Uncommon
Turns Into: Copper ore, which can be converted into copper in smelter
Found: Under ground in caves

Used in lots of crafting recipes and buildings.

Lithium

____________________________________________________________________________

Rarity: Rare
Turns Into: Lithium
Found: Above ground and in caves on planets that are not Terran (Home Planet) or Tundra.

Used in crafting recipes

Titanium

____________________________________________________________________________

Rarity: Rare
Turn into: Titanium
Found: Above ground and in caves on planets that are not Terran (Home Planet) or Tundra.

Used in crafting recipes.

Coal

____________________________________________________________________________

____________________________________________________________________________

Rarity: Rare
Turns into: Coal
Found: Very far below ground.

Used to create energy in the coal generator.

Astronium

____________________________________________________________________________

____________________________________________________________________________

Rarity: Rare
Turns into: Astronium
Found: Very far below ground, further then coal.

I do not know what this is used for yet. Devs seem to be hinting that it will be use for something important soon, so get alot of it.

Research Pods
Research pods are spherical objects that can be picked up. They can be opened with the Research Unit base module, and hold special craftable items like: filters, the truck, trade platform, fuel condenser, and many more. After no more special items are available, they will start to give rare resources like titanium and lithium.

The research pods come in 2 kinds: Alien and Modern

Alien research pods look like this:

______________________________________________________________________________

These research pods can be found in trees above ground, on ceilings in caves, and under mushroom looking plants in caves. They are very common and can be easily collected.

Modern research pods look like this:

______________________________________________________________________________

Modern research pods are no as common as alien pods, and are usually found around crash sites. They are very rare in caves but can still be found below ground.

From my own personal experience, alien and modern pods grant the same things, and are only different in appearance and rarity.
Vehicles
Vehicles are mobile entities that can be crafted in the vehicle bay. 2 vehicles can be crafted from the start. These are the rover and the shuttle. If you are lucky enough, you can get 2 additional vehicles, these are the truck and the spaceship.

Vehicles are very buggy, and tend to glitch through the ground, fly around, and occasionally disappear.

Rover

______________________________________________________________________________

The rover is very cheap to create but can only hold a 1-seat part and a power or storage part. Multiple rovers can be connected together for more connection nodes. Rovers are relativley fast, and hold a good amount of power, so they a could for exploring, acting as a mobile base. Be careful if you a connecting 3 or more rovers together, as they seem to have a huge impact on performance.

Cost: 4 Compound
Connections: 4

Truck

<Image coming soon>
______________________________________________________________________________

The truck is a larger version of the rover, having 6 (or 8?) connections. It can support a 3-seater or a 1-seater. Multiple trucks can be connected for even more storage. Trucks are not as fast as rovers, but hold twice as much power as the rover. Also acts as a mobile base, but is more expensive.

Cost: 4 Aluminum
Connections: 6 (or 8?)

Shuttle

____________________________________________________________________________

The shuttle is cheap way to travel to other planets. It has a medium size rocket fuel tank, and can hold 2 people if you have 2 1-seaters, or 1 1-seater and storage/power. The tank on the bottom must have rocket fuel (hydrazine) before it can take off.

Cost: 4 Compound
Connections: 4

Spaceship

____________________________________________________________________________

The spaceship is the larger version of the shuttle, and has a much larger fuel tank. It has 6 connections (or 8?) and can support a 3-seater. It has a larger amount of launches than the shuttle but is move expensive.

Cost: 4 Aluminum
Connections: 6 (or 8?)

Multiplayer/ Co-op
As of now, multiplayer is a little weird.

If you want to play with you friends, one of you has to fully load into a game, then the other people must not have the game running. While the game is not running, go to your friends list and click the drop down menu next to your friends name, and click, "Join Game".

The game should launch and you should skip the main menu and go straight into the game with your friends in it.

@Grizzly This guide should still cover the basics, but anything that wasn't included with the initial release of the game isn't on here. I haven't looked for any updated ones.

Any ideas if there's a newer guide to look into or can this guide still be used at all?
There doesn't seem to be a single updated new user gude anywhere.
