Rocket Artillery Guide - Advanced & Basic / A Must Read for Squad Leaders
By PausePlay
This guide will tell you how to use the Artillery Technical. This is a guide based on a collection of information from different sources and my own personal expeirence. Using the R.T. (Rocket Technical / Truck) "Efficiently" requires good communicative squad leaders and an in sync squad.

Read the Q/A's and RoT's page for important tips.
This guide will tell you how to use the Artillery Technical. This is a guide based on a collection of information from different sources and my own personal expeirence. Using the R.T. (Rocket Technical / Truck) "Efficiently" requires good communicative squad leaders and an in sync squad.

Read the Q/A's and RoT's at the bottom of the page for important tips.
The Basics
The basics -

-Their are two equally important roles to the R.T. (Rocket Technical / Truck)
-The driver (whom controls the horizontal aiming) and the gunner (whom controls the vertical aiming and the firing)

-To "Drive" enter the vehicle (F) and then switch to the drivers seat (F1). Start the vehicle (E) and drive to where you want to fire from.
-To "Gun" enter the vehicle (F) and then switch to the gunners seat (F2). Aim with the weapon either up or down ( W / S ) and fire (LMB).
Ranging -

-The range of the R.T. is 75/100 - 800 meters on flat terrain.
--(If the missle hits the ground at a range shorter than 75 m. it will not detonate similar to the RPG or LAW at short range)

-Fireing from a hill to a lower terrain or a valley to higher terrain will result in altered range and will not be acurate without a spotter.

-As a squad leader you can mark on the map where you want your rockets to hit. After you mark, a range will be set on the compass at the bottom of your screen. It will be a range number in a green box atop a thin green needle on the compass telling you specificly which direction you marked your target.
--(Be aware the marked range on the compass is not specific unless it meets the m. value of (1000 / 750 / 500 / 400 /300 / 200 / 100)

-Tapping the W or S key will alter the range by 15 - 40 m. closer or farther assuming the target is at the same elevation as the R.T. and the R.T. is fireing on an even or near flat terrain.
--(If the R.T. is fired from a slope or is leaning to the left/right it will alter if not totally scramble your aim)

-It is extreamly helpful if not crucial that your squad leader is particpating in these operations. He has the power to mark where targets are and give you a range on the compass for acurate fire. He also has binoculars so he can tell you if you are off target or on. Other squad members should be able to tell you as well. Encourage them to use rough meter estamates on how off you are to the left/right or longer/shorter. He also is a communications HUB for other squad leaders needing a firemission.
--(It is easier for the Insurgents and Milita on this case, because they get the scout class whom is a good choice as a spotter so the squad leader can focus on other tasks at hand.)
Supply Runs
Supply Runs

-Each time the R.T. depletes its ammo, it will need to refil at a Vehicle Repair Station. These can be built at F.O.B.'s and at Main Base.

-F.O.B.'s are supplied by Logistics trucks and provide 1000 Munitions (Need for vehicle ammo refills) and 1000 Building Materials. The R.T. requires 250 muntions to resupply to full ammo from the missle count of 0. The R.T. takes about 1 minute to to refill to full ammo if completly empty.

-If the map is small enough or the target is in range from main base then you can stay in main base and consantly refill your rockets for a devestating barrage since the ammo at base is infinit.

-*Note* I think the resupply value for Militia and Insurgent Logistics Trucks if 500 Munitions and 500 Building Materials.
Q&A - RoT
Now that we have the esentials out of the way how about some Q & A!

Q. How should I organize my squad if I'm responsible for the R.T.?
A. Allow one person to double as the Driver / Gunner. He should be a regular Rifleman. You should also have a Scout for a Spotter. Last but not least, have a regular riflemen running a logistics truck for the team. As for everyone else they can defend flags or help other squads until you have a specific job for them.

Q. Where should I place my R.T?
1. Close to a Vehicle Repair Station so you don't have to go back and forth to rearm and keep reseting your aim.
2. Behind Cover
3. On land that is level and flat with similar elevation to your target for maximum accuracy (otherwise spotters will be needed)

Q. What if there is only one logistics truck?
A. Don't hog it and spread supplies for your team, ask if other squad leaders if they need supplies or use it for your munitions runs.

Q. I need a Fire Mission, but another squad is responsible for the R.T., what do I do?
1. Tell him/her you need Artilley Support
2. Mark on the map where you want it with hostile markers.
3. Have him/her send some rounds and adjust their aim if off target.
4. Once on target, Fire for Effect and tell your squad to get small incase of inaccurate fire. (Buildings are great cover against Artillery)

Rules of Thumb

1. Make sure your back blast is clear by looking behind you as gunner, because it can and will kill if in its path.
Thats pretty much it.
REMEMBER Teamwork is Key, Good Luck!

Major thanks to:

I did mean the area of effect of a single rocket aka the blast radius. The missile spread is clearly visible when I'm firing the rockets and depends on the pre-defined firing range. So I don't hear them coming. I see them going. :D

Well more so than an RPG or LAW so maybe about 5-10 feet on impact, but if you mean the rocket spread on a full salvo then its most likely about 75-150 foot spread on the target area. I'm not 100% sure on that, but if you hear it coming down on you just run to your nearest building or hide in the deepest ditch. It doesn't really matter much on the individual rockets if its coming down in the dozens.

What's a missile's blast radius?

Yea I wish the truck had a better manipulation system for aiming. I am all about using spotters but damn its a crap shoot

@Shadow5798 Yes, I am well aware and that and it is not the topic of this guide. You should go to the squad wiki and review the vehicles. The spg mounted technical is not the vehicle that is being covered here.
Shadow5798 Jan 1, 2017 @ 6:28pm
you know the spg-9 is not a form of indirect artillery right? its a recoiless rifle designed for direct fire to defeat armor like is ment for in the game.

arty truck is impossible to zero ... with the spread it has , and no true markers for how high or low ur aiming , and long re-arm and crappy AoE , forget it , really is a waste unless you spend countless time trying to prep it , which could of just used a hmg truck...

@Renown I think this all boils down to how accurate it is. I just want to able to be the guy thats running for cover because rockets are falling everywhere you know. Just a dose of PTSD XD

I don't think that building destruction is exatcly what we need, but maybe FOB destruction. Not to where the defences disappear, but to have a model that makes the object look severly damaged and needs repairs.

Renown I love the talks we just had and I bet it shown some light on anyone who read up on this comment section and I think the only thing we can do now is wait to see how Offworld will react in there next update. Cant wait.

ALSO! Nearly 1000 views for this guide. Guys and gals im feelin a little humble. XD

Anyway as always make requests if there is anything about the game you would like a guide for that you can't find anywhere else.

Have a good day Renown and Merry Christmas Everyone.

Now... perhaps using it against points that aren't surrounded by buildings (but I dont think there is such a map), outside of Kohat?
Renown Dec 26, 2016 @ 11:37am
It could absolutely be useful. even now. Like imagine Kokan, and a superfob in a city? bombard it... but... buildings prevent damage, etc etc.. I'd honestly remove it as it stands now because arty should blow through buildings. But we have no terrain/building destruction, etc. I wish I could just remove it from the server without going to custom servers. I think the biggest tip would be "Don't use it, you'll waste time and effort"
