Tobimaru's Kickstarter is launching on Oct. 16th, 2018!
2nd Alpha Demo is ready for you to play!
We went completely silent and worked non-stop with our heads down for 3 months. During this time, we've made a LOT of improvements on the game. The demo level has been rebuilt from the group up, and we strongly feel the game is now something fun and enjoyable. There shouldn't be nasty surprises in the game as the enemies and the traps should now give sufficient warning and feedback.

Try out the demo if you have a spare moment! It should take about 20-30 minutes to complete.

If you like it, please spread the word on social media!

Thank you!

Release date: early 2019

The Legend of Tobimaru is a unique combination of traditional metroidvania and fighting games. It offers the tight controls and visual style of many of the retro classics along with modern gameplay and effects.

For those of you who are nostalgic for games like Shinobi, Castlevania, and Metroid, Tobimaru is a love letter to those legendary games!

  • Well-crafted smooth pixel animations
  • In-depth fighting mechanics with unlockable combos and special abilities
  • RPG-like level-up system where the main character can improve his fighting skills
  • Challenging enemies that could turn each encounter you have into your last
  • Items / power-ups that help you get through the levels
  • Interactive objects to open pathways

The protagonist, Tobimaru, lives in a world of constant battles between clans, each of which keeps an orb with special powers. His clan was defeated in his absence with many killed and injured, and now he embarks on a quest for revenge and redemption to restore the honor of his clan.

We want to keep our development process as open and transparent as possible. We share our progress on our website[] and our social media pages on a weekly basis, without giving away too much and spoiling the game. Currently, we are finalizing the content of the first level Deep Forest, and our plan is to build 3 levels, each with a completely unique set of backgrounds, enemies and bosses.

We value all the feedback from you, our future players! Making this game won’t be possible without you, so we will involve our player base as much as possible during development.

  • Shingo Tamura - Pixel Artist & Programmer - Founder and the only full-timer
  • Pau Damià Riera - Music Composer, and Sound Designer - Contractor
  • Bojan Rajic - Concept Artist - Contractor
  • Ken Azumaishi - Level Designer & Tester - Intern

We are a tiny team based in Auckland, New Zealand, and we really need your help to get the game on Steam. Please vote YES! if you like this game.

If you voted NO, please tell us why in the comments section below. We would love to hear any constructive feedback to make this a better game!

THANK YOU for your time and your consideration!

@Osseipi Thanks! Level-ups will increase health, attack and speed, and also unlock combat moves. Special abilities are unlocked via scrolls (you can see an example of these in the trailer).

This looks very appealing. Are the level ups only used for special abilities or are there attributes for your character - or maybe increasing maximum health or "energy" ?

@8%SalesTax True! Samurais probably rely on their swords a little more than they should, definitely way than ninjas do.

i like nijas cause they move fast and are powerful and have very powerful kicks, samurias are weak and need trheir swords to fight

@8%SalesTax glad they are ninjas not samurais, although we think samurais are cool too :-)
SKLOOFER Nov 15, 2016 @ 11:32pm
samurais are gay fags
