The Final Week!
Release date: Early 2017
In this interactive novel, Lilya Martel has the opportunity to test a revolutionary virtual reality console, made by tech developer Jacob Lessard, that feels more “real” than reality itself. But when everything Lilya and Jacob assume about reality is thrown into question, they must confront their own beliefs about the nature of existence.

Supernovas blaze in the night sky and major natural disasters are commonplace, but the gaming world is abuzz over a revolutionary virtual reality console. The Penta, developed by InterMense founder Jacob Lessard, promises a neural connection more “real” than reality itself. But what does it truly mean for something to be real?

When VR nerd Lilya Martel arrives at InterMense as a beta tester, she expects to spend the weekend battling her social anxiety in exchange for the opportunity to enter Vitalia, the flagship Penta simulation. But between the physical side-effects of the Penta, suspicious explanations from the developers, and the odd and unbelievably intelligent inhabitants of Vitalia, clearly all is not as it seems at InterMense. Ben Evers, another beta tester, claims that Vitalia is the world in which he belongs - permanently. When Ben’s life is threatened, Lilya sees that she has become involved in something much riskier and more eye-opening than she realized.

As Lilya, Ben, and Jacob’s fates intertwine, they must make some of the hardest decisions of their lives, and confront their own beliefs and perceptions of the nature of existence.

The best way to get a sense of what </reality> will be like is to try out the pre-alpha demo! The demo is available for Windows, Mac and Linux on IndieDB, and includes chapter 1 (of 10 chapters total).

  • A thought-provoking, philosophy-inspired story with several mind-bending twists, and two perspective characters - over 90,000 words

@Insanity Wolf-Chan Glad you're interested! Perspective was actually the main theme of the game, including exploring the differences between interacting in reality and virtual reality.

As for Sword Art Online, it has a very interesting premise and a lot of themes it could have explored, but most of the story doesn't really live up to that premise (it's not bad, it just could've been so much more).

Saying that I get a Sword Art Online vibe from this would be disingenuous because I've never actually read Sword Art Online, and now I think I probably should read Sword Art Online XD

Anyway, seems interesting. Having a clear disconnect between a fantasy and sci-fi/modern world has been done before (e.g. Harry Potter, Neverending Story, Super Mario Bros.) But in these, the "modern" world only ever serves as a hub through which the characters enter the "fantasy" world. I don't think I've ever seen one with a heavy focus on the way people interact with these worlds differently, as one person would be a completely different person in the fantasy world than they are in the modern "real" world, for example.

@HellCow - we would love it if you would promote and test the game! I'm perfectly fine if your feedback is honest - that is exactly the kind of feedback we need - just make sure you explain that it's an alpha version, and hopefully all of your gripes will be fixed by release!

Right now the only part of the game we are ready to share with others is the alpha demo, which you can download here: </reality> Alpha Demo 0.1.69 on IndieDB
