I finally had a chance to try this out, and it's awesome! The demo is exceptionally polished, and I love the research / base building mechanics. It's a bit like Galaga and SimCity combined. I'm having fun with it already, and I'd buy it on Steam for sure. Nice work!

I don't think it's a bad thing having a small gameplay area for an "arcade" feel. If that's the vision for the game you want, then go for it. However, visually it does not look impressive ATM along the border between that gameplay area and the background.

Maybe there could even be level variations, like some which are wider, or narrower. I don't think that's a big deal though.

The game art is quite nice, and the game looks solid.

However, I really don't like how the gameplay area is so small. The area itself looks and feels really narrow, but if that's a gameplay element you're striving for, I'd recommend adding some kind of visual so you don't see the graphic of the gameplay area and background so crudely cropped against one another!
