In practice, nighttime and interiors are often so dark that you can't see anything. Like, at all. It's literally pitch black, and while that's how it realistically ought to be, it doesn't (in my own opinion) make for a very enjoyable experience gameplay-wise.
Especially because enemies don't seem to be any more affected by the darkness than they were in vanilla Skyrim.
Torches do work, mind, but they burn out and take up your offhand slot, so it's likely to at least occasionally conflict with your character build.
Very immersive, but I'm uninstalling after a few hours of gameplay.
