Harvest Guide
When you are preparing for the Winter and have a very large harvest, the food may go bad.

You'll need to prepare to store your vegetables by building rooms to store the harvest!

The stuff lasts quite a while on the ground, once its protected by a roof.

If you're having trouble feeding your colony or animals through winter..

The solution is to make a BIG DEAL out of your summer harvest!

Here are the steps to preserve your harvest.

0. Its Harvest Time!
1. Make all colonists who can Grow/Plant Cut be priority 1, reduce all other tasks
2. Make a Zone on your Harvest Area
3. Restrict all Grow/Plant Cutters to the Harvest Area
4. If it is a harvest before Fall/Winter and the growing season is over, Double Click your Growing Zone and Forbid Sowing.
5. Let them work for a day or two to make the harvest!

Now all of your harvest is on the ground.

6. Make a Zone that includes your Harvest Area and Food Storage Room ("Potato Silo")
7. Make everyone who can Haul a priority 1 Hauler
8. Restrict Haulers to your new Harvest Area and Food Storage Room Zone

When you are stocking up for Fall and Winter, it takes a couple of days work on the colonists' part but its worth it because you can survive the winter because your food doesn't all go bad.

Good Luck.

Good tips on the zones. I'm still just learning and I didn't think about using zones to restrict them for harvesting.

(my approach is good for tree farming since theres 15 whole days of winter and wood gets scarce

true, i usually have to use 4 conditioners and 4 heaters for atleast a 20x20 plus not add 10 doors so all my colonists dont go through and ruin the temp. i also learned that firebulbs use a ton of power, i learned that the hard way

yeah you chose a good approach, you need a lot of steel and some components to make it happen, so the big harvest tactic can be used when you are playing with tribal technology and for other situations where appropriate.

what i did is made a structure outside, filled it with heaters, air conditioners and sun lamps, but didnt add any flooring, then grew plants inside 24-7
