(1) If you don't take Yoshimo to Spellhold, he's never betrayed you in the first place - he isn't there to do so: Saemon Havarian, as an NPC, does it instead (and isn't, obviously, present to argue with the player or Irenicus when the player actually gets knocked out.)
(2) And if you left Yoshimo behind, in the Copper Coronet which is his default place when not in the party, then he will be dead when you get back. (I believe the mechanic is that he dies when you first enter the Coronet, in chapter 6. It was done this way so that his inventory would drop to the floor so the player could retrieve it, if he had been carrying anything important - instead of making him disappear completely.)
