Description
Solitaria is an atmospheric action platformer that draws inspiration from and pays homage to classic games from the late 80's and early 90's such as Super Metroid, Another World, Flashback and Prince of Persia. Explore a vast solar system populated by alien planets and unlock new abilities to aid exploration and find secrets. Solitaria features hand drawn pixel art in the style of many 16 and 32 bit games from the '90's but with a few modern twists. The game features a varied electronic music score with special care taken to sound design.

I am a sucker for Metroid styled games. So this is an insta buy for me.

Thanks for the response Seriatum, it's super awesome to see an author who interacts with the thread. And that system sounds like it would be amazing, assuming it was balanced and what-not correctly. Again game looks great!

Captain Obvious: Yes I'm planning on making the ship customizable, you will probably find parts of it scattered throughout the planets and customizing it will allow you to reach other areas. I'm not sure how in depth the customization will be yet though. As for the character, I am aiming for a system similar to Super Metroid, whereby you will gain new abilities and can switch these on and off as needed. Some abilities will be optional/secret.

MeowMeow: Thank you! I'm working on refining the artwork a lot more, so the finished game will be much prettier - but there's still a long way to go.

I Fart: Thanks for your comments! The game that inspired this is Super Metroid, which has a very strong female lead character. While my game borrows very heavily from this game in its mechanics and atmosphere I'm also trying to make it an original piece and I thought also having a female character might be considered a little too derivitive. That said however, the story isn't gender specific and it could work either way - it would be cool to add the option to choose, but it would also double my animation work and add in a few more complications. That said though, there will be a very interesting female character in the story...so hopefully it may still appeal.

The art style is definetly, amazing. Is there going to be something like an in depth customization of ship and character? I think that kind of mechanic would definetly make it a better experience
