Update #1 - Pushkin the Pig
  • OINK! (1zp) - You may switch two adjacent cards on either main field.

  • FORAGE (2zp) - You may switch a numerical card on your main field with a numerical card on your side field.

  • PIG-OUT (6zp) - Select either main field. All cards on it are destroyed. Your opponent takes damage equal to the combined value of all cards destroyed.

He is the first character that has an ability that can affect a side field, as well as the first that can cast an ability for free thanks to his power, "Rambunctious." He also has a substantial, though occasionally unwieldy, control of the field that might give Foust a run for his money. However, his damage opportunities are slim, so uses of his "Pig-Out" ability will be key to translating that control into a victory.

He is still in the process of being fully integrated into the game, but should be fully completed within a week, AI and all. At that point I may shove a new build in the direction of some who have expressed interest to see if they'd like to take him for a spin so I can get a read on how he plays.

I'm hoping to have a new character to present each week during the next month, after which its gonna be all Arcade Mode, all the time. So stay tuned my good people!

Description
ZARF is a two player competitive card game with a focus on simple but difficult to master gameplay. Players switch cards and use character abilities to achieve victory.

Here is a tech demo of the current build, with AI opponents and online multiplayer:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Byq8pouUW_eWNVFQWjJac1pLeEE
Note: Contains flashing lights and weird hands.

Current features:
  • Four magical colors.
  • Three playable characters, each with their own set of abilities.
  • AI opponents with three levels of difficulty.
  • An interactive tutorial.
  • An assortment of noises.
  • Local Hotseat multiplayer.
  • Online Multiplayer (currently requires port forwarding.)
  • A sleepy bear.
  • Three battle music tracks

Planned features:
  • Five additional characters.
  • 10+ additional battle music tracks
  • An "Arcade" mode that will have players battle several rounds of AI opponents consecutively, with each match featuring randomized restrictions to keep things spicy. Players will also be able to spend "arcade points" earned after each battle on helpful items to assist them.

I have made a concerted effort to make this build bug free, but let's face it, there's still probably some lurking around in there. Please keep in mind this is the earliest public stage of this project, and feel free to let me know of any bugs you find. Not that you have to or anything. I'm not your dad.

Well thank you for that! It's pretty great to hear the online multiplayer is functioning right and is entertaining. I also haven't been able to get much word back on whether the tutorial actually does its job or not, so your words are very encouraging.

Hey, I saw this game and was interested in trying it out, and I have got to say you've done a great job with it, the game feels well paced and the tutorial really helped me pick up how to play it, I've been playing with a friend and for an early tech demo it feels like a very solid build.

Keep up the great work!

Yeah... One of the major hurdles with this game's production is going to be having a good method of quickly explaining the basic rules of play. Making a video where I attempt this is on my immediate to-do list. I will note that I have included an interactive tutorial in the current build for those who are interested, though that obviously doesn't help at all when people are taking their first glance at the game.

I'm very glad you liked the art style, and thanks for taking the time to leave some feedback! It is greatly appreciated.

Solid art style. I think something I would say is that although it looks visually impressive, it is hard to follow what is actually happening in the trailer once the card game starts. You sort of alienate the viewer because they have no way of relating to what they are seeing, and it sort of becomes a 2001: A Space Odessy light show. Other than that comment, looks like a great presentation, and I wish you luck!

Thank you! I'm quite partial to it myself.
