The Kickstarter just hit its funding goal!

I just want to say THANK YOU to all who have supported this project, backed it on Kickstarter, or helped to spread the word. You have done something meaningful to make a lifelong dream come true, and gave this project a huge boost to make it bigger, better, and faster! You are awesome and now this game can really take off!

Also, it's not too late to jump in on this if you've been on the fence about it, or have friends that might want the Kickstarter exclusives or just to be a part of something interesting. The Kickstarter ends this Sunday 7:00pm MST, so there are less than 3 days left to claim that sweet glory.

I made a new character!

Meet Dr. Lawrence Walters, aka "LawnChair Larry." He was once a successful rocket scientist, but lost his mind after discovering the wonders of LSD. Now he's built his own rocket-powered "vehicle" to reclaim his former glory (or just to feed his habit, it's hard to know for sure).

Release date: Early Access: First Quarter 2017

Guts and Glory is a game about ordinary people competing in extraordinary challenges of life and death! Some people say it’s like a mashup of Happy Wheels, Turbo Dismount, BeamNG and, in some ways, Super Meat Boy! But what it ultimately becomes will be up to you!


NOTICE: This is an early pre-alpha build. Bugs/glitches/crashes are possible.
You can play as John and Jimmy on their trusty Golden Goose bicycle across 13 tracks—for FREE!

The first game mode is "survival racing." It’s competing for the fastest times on the world’s deadliest obstacle courses / race tracks / wacky sandbox maps.

Players will select from a wide variety of vehicles, including realistic bicycles, poorly built cars, and rocket-powered homemade contraptions (and a WHOLE LOT MORE). They’ll race to the finish line through 3D worlds with full 360 degrees of freedom, dodging all sorts of hazards, including sawblade windmills, giant wrecking balls, medieval cannons and crazy turrets. The list continues to grow….

Each vehicle is completely physics-driven, with 100% ragdoll riders, realtime dismemberment, and dynamic vehicle damage.

This means that every turn, every crash, and every death is unique—and often results in hilarious scenarios! Severed limbs spray blood all over nearby characters and the environment as you struggle to hang on and reach the finish line. Vehicles get dented, smashed and lose parts. Wheels can be popped or just knocked off completely. Determined players on tough tracks will find themselves hobbling across the finish line bloodied, missing limbs, stuck full of arrows, on a smashed vehicle only one hit away from being incapacitated!

My goal is to make this a long-time favorite in your gaming collection![/]

There is much in store for this project, and I believe the core mechanics provide for a huge amount of potential! I want this project to be shaped largely by the community. Although this is my first game, I will give it my 100% to mold it into what players want it be. Something you can come back to again and again. I have more ideas than I will probably ever be able to implement, but below are a few of them to help show the potential for this game:

Some planned/possible features include:

  • Track Maker (plus share and search functions)
  • Full controller support (PS, Xbox, Steam, generic, etc.) (already mostly implemented)
  • Destructible environments/props: smash through windows, thin walls, fences, crates, signs, vases, etc.
  • AI Characters that wander around, run away screaming, chase you with chainsaws, etc.
  • At least 10 unique vehicles
  • 100 “official” Tracks, spread across 10 different themed Maps
  • Loads of Hazards, Special Items, and Power-Ups!
  • Time of day system: this means racing at night, evening, or with realtime lighting changes over the course of the race!
  • Steam integration: Leaderboards, Achievements, level sharing, etc.

If this game is popular enough, and financially feasible, I plan on building additional Game Modes as well. I’ll look to fans to point me in the right direction on this one. Some ideas include:

  • Safety Bus/Taxi: You are Chuck. You are a bus/taxi driver… except your bus/taxi is just an old pickup truck, painted yellow, with wooden bench seats bolted into the bed. (Hey, local budgets are really tight!) Your job is to pick up and deliver passengers to their destinations as quickly as possible—with minimum casualties or collateral damage.
  • Adventure Time: This game mode would play similar to a 3D platformer adventure game—but in vehicles and totally physics driven. Would include weapons, power-ups, and epic boss fights.
  • Deathmatch Arena: Challenge Friends in a battle to the death. Think Super Mario Kart arenas—but with bloody deaths and dismemberments!

I have tons more ideas to add to this list…. The core mechanics of this game create opportunities of a wide variety of entertaining and unique game playing experiences. If I can implement local/online multiplayer down the road then the possibilities get even more exciting. I’m focusing on building a super fun single-player experience first... then track builder.

I’ve been working on this project in my spare time for the past year.
I am extremely determined to see this game be a huge success and become a long-term favorite in your gaming library.
I want to add TONS of awesome stuff and keep it growing and evolving for a long time. I’ve put my blood, sweat and tears into this game. But I’m just one dude—I NEED YOUR HELP! Please spread the word about this game. Tell your friends, share it on social media, tell your favorite Let's Player about it…. with so much tough competition in the game development world, just letting everyone know and standing out from the crowd can be the hardest part! But if we can get tons of people excited about this project, we can continue to build it bigger, better and more awesome!

@artygamer456 I've been working super hard to get the level editor built and everything working with Workshop. Should be ready for the Steam closed betas soon. Will post a new update about everything pretty soon.
