Game backgrounds and enemy formations
New Enemies!
Enemies, Enemies, Enemies!
For the current version of M.A.C.E. Space Shooter we often get comments that the game has not enough different enemies and much enemy waves from the same type. We know that is a problem and our focus for the updated desktop version will be this issue. We have a big number of new enemies with different animations, behavior and strength.


New enemies for a more varied gameplay

Painting and technics
For our paintings, Thomas (the one who does all graphics) is using "Clip Studio Paint Pro", a nice piece of software which does a great job in combination of an Asus ep121 Windows tablet. The hardware is not the newest one but it is more than enough for the painting job. The work of Thomas is more a "learning by doing" and his skills are getting better on each project but he is never satisfied with his work. From the initial release of M.A.C.E. until now, the graphics style and the graphic technics (cleaner painting lines, lightning and shadows etc.) has been improved and did a big step forward. That is the reason that not only new enemies will be included in the desktop version of M.A.C.E, also the old enemies and the player ship will be reworked into a better and cleaner look. The next development entry will show some before and after images of the reworked graphics.

Work on the code side
The current work is not only focused on the graphics side. While Thomas is painting the whole day, Frank (the programmer of all parts of our projects) is working hard on improvenments on the sofware side. As the main work on the game engine for windows desktop is finished now, the current step is to include the new enemies, update existing ones with new behaviors. One of our goals is also to create different ways of enemy behaving when they are hitted from the player. Depending on the used weapon some enemies acts in a different way. This will be a nice feature because different weapons assume different strategies to play, especially in the two player coop mode (different weapon each player -> different impact for the enemies).

MACE ist ein klassisches Weltraum Shoot`em up, inspiriert von den legendären Amiga Spielen dieses Genres. Handgemalte 2D Grafiken in HD Auflösungen, parallax Scrolling, Explosionseffekte und optimierte Spielemechanik kombiniert mit bewährtem Spielprinzip transportiert den "Spirit of Amiga" in das heutige Zeitalter.

Spielablauf:
In MACE steuert der Spieler ein Raumschiff hinweg über 3 verschiedene Welten mit jeweils 6 vertikal scrollende Levels und versucht diverse Gegner zu zerstören oder ihnen auszuweichen. Versteckte Gegenstände (Waffen, Bomben, Energie), aufrüstbare Waffen und Zusätze, wie Rakete und Begleiter helfen dabei in schwierigen Gefechten die Gegner zu besiegen.

Definition M.A.C.E.:
Military Alliance of Common Earth (Militärbündnis der gemeinsamen Erde)
Im Jahre 2054 nach der ersten Außerirdischen Invasion auf die Erde gegründet ist M.A.C.E. Inbegriff für den neuen Zusammenhalt aller Völker der Erde um das Ziel zu verfolgen die Außerirdischen zu bekämpfen und das Leben auf der Erde auf militärischem Weg zu sichern.

Geschichte:
Während auf der Erde schwere Kämpfe gegen ankommende Alienschiffe toben und die M.A.C.E. Einheiten den Bau weiterer Landebasen für Alienschiffe verhindern sollen, versucht eine Gruppe speziell ausgebildeter Kampfpiloten mit Weltraum-Kampfschiffen die Ankunft weiterer Alientruppen zu verhindern und die Mutterschiffe und Truppentransporter der Außerirdischen zu zerstören.

Deine Mission:
Kämpfe dich in einer außergewöhnlichen Weltraummission durch fremde Galaxien um die Ankunft weiterer Alienschwärme auf die Erde zu verhindern. Dein Raumschiff ist eines der Ersten, welches von Menschen mit Alien Technologien gebaut worden ist und Antriebe, Waffen und Schilde der Alien nutzt um gegen sie bestehen zu können.

Hi, we try to finish the game within the next month. Some other things needed our time, so it takes a little bit more. Sorry for that. A good thing: We got new voice samples for all collected weapons etc. from our musician which was not planned. Currently, i work on the Steam assets (Achievements, gamercards), the coder is also connecting the game to the steam system. After this, we have to put some work in gameplay, taking some glasses of wine and play, test and adjust ;) So stay tuned and sorry for the delay, but we are still here and on track...

Beside the "port" side, we have much new content within the game. Our own game engine is designed to run on much devices, new is the windows version. M.A.C.E. itself is more a controller game, playing it on mobile devices is not the finest (at least for me ;) ). It is ok with the fingers on the screen, but it is much better with a gamepad or at least keyboard and mouse. From graphical view, we have done much improvements to get more variations (in backgrounds) and reworked all enemies and the player ship. Much enemies have now special animations and also react different with hitting it with different weapons. Also a new weapon system is finished now, the player can switch between the weapons while playing. Next week, the focus will be the whole gameplay, build levels with the new enemies, test, test, test... we are looking forward to this week because we are just a step before finishing the main game (then only some polishing).

Calling this a mobile port is just flat out wrong. Its made for Amiga computers too, which uses joysticks/controllers like Windows based PCs.

Mace is easily one of my favorite AmigaOS games. An enhanced version of this game is a must buy!

I got it on Ipad, and its a very nice game. I would love to see it in Vampire powered AOS3.x Amigas too.

Anyhow, I will defintly get a Steam version!
