Description
This mod replaces the voice files used by Black Dog units in Battlezone 98 Redux with those used by the same units in Battlezone: Rise of the Black Dogs, giving them a diverse and distinctly unprofessional twist.

Now updated for full compatibility with Battlezone 98 Redux: The Red Odyssey!

--------

All tracks recorded at Climax Studios under the supervision of Matthew "4mat" Simmonds.
Part of the Rise of the Black Dogs Decompilation Project by the Heracles Brigade.

@ded10c Oh, well that would explain why it didn't work. Thank you!

@slidemasterc - are you certain you're using Black Dog units? The Playground doesn't feature any, and most Instant Action maps don't either. If you're not playing the Red Odyssey-specific Black Dog campaign or using the Black Dogs in Strategy or MPI, you won't hear any changes.

This doesn't work for me. I've tried single player campaign, instant action, and playground in red odyssey.

How did I not know this was a thing?

I've just updated this for compatibility with The Red Odyssey.

Lol yeah. Come to think of it rebellion might have to nix the original version's Chinese unit voice over. Because these days lawsuits are sure more likely. But that's why we have the greatness of workshop!

The British voices in this pack (the English tug, minelayer, factory and Grizzly and the Scottish Bobcat) are particularly cringeworthy to me. We don't actually sound like that - the voice work is all deliberate caricature. Climax Studios - the team behind Rise of the Black Dogs - are based in Portsmouth in Hampshire, so it was cheaper for them to use local voice talent... which meant getting genuinely American-sounding actors would be difficult. The easy solution was deliberately hammy lines, which made it easier for them to diversify too. It also helps everything match up with the camp, vaguely racist voice acting used for the Russians and, especially, the Chinese.

When you think about it Battlezone got away with a lot of vaguely racist humour that definitely wouldn't fly today (see the name of the sixth mission of Dogs of War, which is both a pun of absolute genius and hilariously inappropriate), but I guess it all fits with the jingoism of Cold War America.

"-distinctly unprofessional twist." Yup that nails it lol. Imagine Starcraft cheesiness but they grabbed a high school chess club to do the voice overs. There are good voices though! Like the tug, that has a woman with nice english accent, but then there is the badger turret... worth a laugh lol.

Well, there is one thing that I wish to know. Would this voice pack be converted into an add-on for the "Battlezone Classic" mod (along with "Battlezone Classic: The Red Odyssey") for "Battlezone II?"

There are very few - three lines per unit, two for producers - but the whole lot would be going to waste otherwise.
