These are the Frequently Asked Questions for Chivalry: Medieval Warfare.
The customization screen is meant to configure your weapons appearance in the game by letting you select from many different skins that either are unlocked or purchased. All the standard weapons are available to you in the game itself, but some will need to be unlocked which you do by getting kills in each weapon category. To select which weapon you wish to use, bring up the class menu. Clicking on a weapon you can change loadout for each of the four classes (by default you can bring up this menu by pressing M while in game)
Following Chivalry on Steam to get Skins!
There are a few free skins in the game that get unlocked by following Chivalry on the steam hub. This is easy to do by just going to the main hub page and clicking the follow link in the upper right corner.
Follow both Chivalry: Medieval Warfare and Mirage: Arcane Warfare to unlock some items in the game. You can also go to the Store page of both games and click the Follow button below the video/screenshot box;
Once you have followed, you can go to the Customization page in Chivalry and select the team you wish to customize. You have separate customizations for Agatha, Mason, and Free for All and each of the 4 classes.
Some helmets and armour are only available for Agatha or Mason and cannot be worn by the other team. You can select either the Agatha or Mason teams when customizaing your characters for FFA, so you can wear whatever you like there.
Press Escape to exit the Customization panel.
Help! I cannot see any servers in the Server Browser!
If you are having trouble finding any servers to join, there are some things you can try to fix the issue.
Ensure you are launching Chivalry:Medieval Warfare and not Patch Testing for Chivalry
Have you tried restarting Steam? Our server list requires a decent connection to Steam to operate.
Close Steam, open a command prompt window (Windows > Start > "cmd") and running the
command in the command window, then launch Steam again
Is your Server Filter set for <All> and no boxes checked?
Is anyone in your house streaming/downloading while trying to view the server list?
Steam performs Server Maintenance on Tuesday, which often interferes with finding a server; trying again later may help.
An anti-virus program is running and blocking required internet traffic from our game to Steam. Ensure that Chivalry is given full permissions through your anti-virus program
For more advanced fixes if the above suggestions don't work.
Change the Perspective to First or Third, click Save, then change it back to All and Save
Go to your Steam Library List, right click on Chivalry and select Properties > Betas and select None from the dropdownbox
Reduce your Steam Setting for in-game Browser Max Pings per Minute setting

Help! My rank has reset!
This is usually a temporary thing and your rank should reappear shortly. So don't worry about it. Also, you do not keep XP from modded servers (black knight, horde mode, etc), or servers with very few players.
How do I skip the intro video?
The easiest way to disable a start-up video for a game is through the launch options on Steam itself. Add: -nostartupmovies and it will skip the intro movie. If you don't know how to set launch options:
- Right click Chivalry in your library - Select Properties - Press the "Set Launch Options" button - In the pop-up box paste this: -nostartupmovies
How to disable joysticks/gamepads?
If you have issues that the game is detecting a gamepad while you don't want to use it you can disabling it by doing the following:
Go to C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\My Games\Chivalry Medieval Warfare\UDKGame\Config\UDKEngine.ini
Find "AllowJoystickInput=1" under "[WinDrv.WindowsClient]" and set it to 0.
You can also do this with Deadliest Warrior.
- Fix found by Draeath
If you are having trouble finding the correct resolution and scrolling down doesn't work just click the bar and drag it down. If you have still issues finding your resolution then you can add this to the launch option:
- Right click chivalry in your library - Select properties - Press the "Set Launch Options" button - In the pop-up box paste this: -resx=1920 -resy=1080
You can change the values to the right resolution that you want.
Everyone appears to keep running
For this issue we have made a sticky thread that will explain how to fix it in detail:
Click it and it should trigger a manual download. If it appears to be stuck, try clicking the Chivalry: Medieval Warfare image to try to launch the game; it should give you a "wait while assets are downloading" window, then launch when it's completed.
Unable to join a modded server
If you are unable to join a modded server, while you do have the mod downloaded. You might have an out of date version of the mod and are unable to update it automaticly. You will need to delete the mod manually from your files so it can properly update to the new version.
Go to your Steam Library List, right click on Chivalry and select Properties > Local Files and click on "Browse Local Files"
Then you will have to go to chivalrymedievalwarfare\UDKGame\CookedSDK and delete the folder of the mod you have issues with.
Now if you join the server or redownload the mod again through the workshop it will give you the right version.
How can I get better at the game?
If you are just getting started you might want to check out one of the many Chivalry guides on Steam. Here is one that we have selected that will tell you all the basics that you might need to know:
In this thread you will find all kind of tips and tricks to help you improve within Chivalry, but also don't afraid to ask any questions you might have. Most people with experience will be happy to answer, and remember practice is the key to victory!
First of all Weapon, helmet or character skins don't provide any bonuses, they are purely cosmetic.
If you aren't sure to buy a certain skin because you don't really know how it looks in the game. You can launch "Patch Testing for Chivalry" this is where we test new patches before they go live. Here you can test all skins before you buy them.
First of all create your own server by doing the following:
Now you are in your own private server you can start testing skins you want to check out. Now you will need to go to the customization screen by pressing esc. When you are on the correct window you can look for the skins you want to try out and press buy. Steam will pretend that you are buying the skin but you won't get charged any money for this.
Now the skin will be unlocked and you are able to equip it so you can check it out !
