This is vblanco20-1[ESP] Katana Pack reloaded.
I have the honour to continue his mod with his permission.

Works with and without LW2

V 1.9.2 Added higher damage for LW2 (separate config value)
V 1.9.1 Backstab Visualization(Enemies don't turn to you anymore if attacked with silent takedown active)
V 1.9 New takedown visual effect
V 1.8 LW2 Compatibility
V 1.7.1 Doom and Vortex Ninjato only have a 50 % chance to apply panic
V 1.7 Exposes archetype, icon and abilities to config. Added dedicated Doom Ninjato and Vortex Ninjato model
V 1.6 Introduced Global Suspicion Level and Suspicion UI
V 1.5 Added Tier 3 Ninjato and Vortex Variants of Ninjato, Wakizashi and Katana
V 1.4.1 Hiding previous tiers when new sword tier is bought
V 1.4 Added visual effect for silent takedown
V 1.3 New silent kill mechanics and pod activation on takedown
V 1.2 Added Grimys Utility Slot Sidearms Mod support and Tier 1 Ninjato
V 1.1 Added lightning slash to wakizashi
V 1.0 Initial release

Higher tiers are unlocked when you buy the coresponding sword tier.
There are no additional costs.

There is a config value if you only want cosmetic variants which have no stat difference to the vanilla swords
just set
bNinjatoIsCosmetic=true
bKatanaIsCosmetic=true
bWakizashiIsCosmetic=true
(Default is false)

This mod comes with a default integration to Grimys Loot Mod and Grimys Utility Slot Sidearms

This mod should work on existing save games.
There is an issue that if you have unlocked the higher tiers with the old katana mod there are still unlocked.

Credits
All credits of the conventional katana model and the original implementation to vblanco20-1[ESP].
The energy and plasma katana models, all wakizashi and all ninjato models are from escrimator.

Possible issues:
It was reported that this mod may produce a crash after the tutorial misson.
I can't reproduce it, i have this crash with or without mods active.

FAQ

Q: I don't see the mobility bonus in the UI/Ninjato don't give mobility bonus?

A: Remove the relevant lines in XComUI.ini and you will see the mobility bonus.
The downside is it will show the swords aim bonus on your soldier then.
Nothing i can do about that.

I asked a question about this here a while ago, now just started another LW campaign after a year of hiatus, and got the same issues...trying to get this to work with Grimy Loot Mod LW2 Open Beta, and I cannot for the **** of it get it to do what it should. Says above it already has loot integration with Grimy, but I suppose that only works smoothly with vanilla, right?
I have researched swords up to BM tier, but -like in my first go around- I am getting Katanas, Ninjatos and Wakis from CV, MG and BM tier pretty randomly, while the vanilla blades work just fine, AKA only come up as BM tier...
I already tried different combinations of edits on the integration file (put in all tiers, change the dot to a +, commented stuff out, etc), even deleted it altogether, but nothing seems to fix it. I don't remember if or how I solved the problem the first go around, can anyone help?

@Duke Ramza The different colors are for the different tiers. The red is for the mag tier swords, blue for the beam tier swords, and purple for the special vortex weapons.

Hello, I researched the higher tier and my question is how do I change the swords energy color? I see in your pictures its blue and purple mine shows red but looks orange on the actual body
