This mod halves in resolution the ship textures, thus practically turning the setting for textures from "High" to "Medium" effectively freeing up more memory for the rest of the game's processes. If you are looking to gain more FPS during large battles, or perhaps you are playing on a lower end PC/laptop and want a more fluid experience then give this one a try. Jeez Paradox... put on texture quality settings in the options already!

It only changes the textures, bump maps (2d to 3d texture effect shader) and specular maps (shiny/metal shader) resolution of ships and stations (fighters excluded because they are already tiny as hell.

NEWS:
I have released my Stellar Warpaints mod. It comes in two versions, a Regular and a Performance Edition. The Performance Edition works very well with this mod and you can get it here:

COMPATIBILITY:
Works with ANY VERSION OF STELLARIS (even if the launcher sais that it is outdated!)
Works with everything; except mods that reskin the original ship types.
Will work even when it sais that the mod is outdated.

It will work only for the parts of that mod that still use the base assets. It won't work for custom made ships with custom textures.

Question, will this mod work with other mods like Star Trek New Civilisations which is a complete conversion? Does this still work?

I thought it was both pops AND jobs, with the jobs being the biggest issue

That's not entirely correct. The biggest ressource hogger would be pop checking.

Unfortunately the main resource hog of Stellaris isn't any of the graphical shit, but the AI.

Will this improve my performance if I don't use high graphics settings? My computer runs stellaris at an average of 8 FPS with low graphics.

@Everyone: Here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1590614009

I reduce resolution of the .dds file just like this one, but instead, I decided to do ÷2 ÷2 instead of just a ÷2. (A 2048x2048 dds is converted into 1024x1024 then reconverted into 512x512..

Reason for that is because if I just devide it by 2, the file size will still be 1.2GB or 1200+mb and for a mod, that's too much.

Also, it's up to date for 2.2 that covers DLC ships too.
