(4 - 6) Vammelsuu-Taipale

Description
The VT-line or Vammelsuu–Taipale line was a Finnish defensive line on the Karelian Isthmus built in 1942–1944 during the Continuation War and running from Vammelsuu on the northern shore of the Gulf of Finland through Kuuterselkä and Kivennapa and along Taipaleenjoki to Taipale on the western shore of Lake Ladoga. It crossed the Saint Petersburg–Vyborg railroad at Sahakylä.

I heard this map was close to be chosen in the new COH2 single player "Assault in the North" expansion pack. I hope this map would get the attention it deserves. Best regards, Commander Sensei the 109th Super Border Paralysed Paratrooper squadron

Having commented this map two years ago, I recently had an opportunity to visit the greater Vammelsuu region with an actual military historian. It seems that the geographical details of the Taipaleenjoki river are not entirely correct but we were happy to find out that the elevation of the surrounding hills was very accurately represented in your map! Indeed the hill of Kyrvänvarsimäki was a site of a significant Soviet offensive in April 1945 - an attack which was handily stopped and subsequently overpowered by the 3rd Karelia Axeman Coprs. led by Liueutenant-General Jaakkima Kurareikä. BTW the train station still bears the marks of Soviet shrapnels. Good work with the map. Always nice to play on actual WWII locations. Cheers!

I believe this map is based on actual aerial reconnaissance photography by the celebrated Finnish airman (and after the war Air Marshal General) Mr. Kauko Pussinotko? Very fine work, Sir. Love to see historically accurate eastern frontier maps.
