So First of all thank you too SenSx, Jack Strife, LV99 Vivi and Panopticon for the information about how to remove black bars from the game. I consolidated the information in one place and made it as clear and concise as possible. Also if you are running this game with a 64 bit OS then you can skip step 2.

WARNING THOSE INTENDING TO PLAY WITH MOUSE. LV99 Vivi has brought to my attention that mouse support breaks when you apply this fix what seems to be happening is the game still thinks it's in 4:3 so it won't let you click thing's outside the 4:3 "window."

1 Go Here and DL ReShade 1.1.0f1 https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByxugcUG71wnUi1kRG1zRUZOaVU/view?usp=sharing (Thank you to SenSx for the new dl link and continuing to help those that ask questions here.)

2 Copy the contents of your x86 folder inside your Final Fantasy IX folder to the x64 folder and replace the files.

(C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY IX\x86 --> x64)

3 Extract the Files you downloaded from ReShade.me to the x64 folder you just moved everything to, now rename ReShade32.dll to d3d9.dll

4 Go into the ReShade Folder and open BasicFX.cfg with notepad and scroll down to the magnify section. If you intend to play this game at 1080p your setup should look like this.

////-----------//
///**Magnify**///
//-----------////
#define USE_Magnify 1 //[Magnify] //-

//>Magnify Shader Settings<\\
#define magnifyStartPixelWidth 190 //[undef] //-
#define magnifyStartPixelHeight 0 //[undef] //-
#define magnifyEndPixelWidth 1730 //[undef] //-
#define magnifyEndPixelHeight 1080 //[undef] //-
#define Magnify_ToggleKey RFX_ToggleKey //[undef] //-Toggles the magnify shader

If you wanted to use a different Resolution, take the Resolution you want and subtract 190 from the Pixel Width Line. (Note 1730+190=1920)

You are Finished Enjoy the game without those irritating black bars.

Any suggestions for 3440 x 1440?

In 1920*1080, the grey bars are 190 pixels each side.
But in 2560*1080, they become (2560-1920)/2+190=510 pixels each side.

It can easily remove those grey bars if I change the parameters in BasicFX.cfg.
Since it just simply strechs the display from 4:3 to another ratio (according to parameters and setting), and displays without any additional information (unlike Memoria's real wide screen method), in my opinion, ReShade is not a perfect wide screen solution.

This doesn't work if you set the following in the BasicFX.cfg?

#define magnifyEndPixelWidth 2370 //[undef] //-
#define magnifyEndPixelHeight 1080 //[undef] //-

If not it may be do to the fact that you are using a 21:9 monitor so the 190 might be off.

and I tried to calculate the width parameter with my wide screen resolution...
2560 - 1920 = 640
190 + 640/2 = 510

then BasicFX.cfg line 46 and 49 should be

#define magnifyStartPixelWidth 510 //[undef] //-
and
#define magnifyEndPixelWidth 2050 //[undef] //-

the grey bars was gone
but it looked like it just scretched from 4:3 ratio to 21:9
everyting seemed weird...

I guess at this moment, only Memoria has the real wide screen feature which keeps the pixel ratio.

Plus, I'm using Win10 1803 x64, and I haven't copied the contents of x86 folder to x64 but just renamed the ReShade64.dll to d3d9.dll. It's still working!

I reinstralled and followed your guide once again...
I didn't know what was different but it worked!
The grey bar is gone! Thanks alot!

another issue is, that I'm using a 2560*1080 wide screen.
despite it works kinda perfectly in 1920*1080 window mode,
this tools doesn't work compatibly in full screen mode.

I just simply set the BasicFX.cfg parameters into

////-----------//
///**Magnify**///
//-----------////
#define USE_Magnify 1 //[Magnify] //-

//>Magnify Shader Settings<\\
#define magnifyStartPixelWidth 190 //[undef] //-
#define magnifyStartPixelHeight 0 //[undef] //-
#define magnifyEndPixelWidth 2370 //[undef] //-
#define magnifyEndPixelHeight 1080 //[undef] //-
#define Magnify_ToggleKey RFX_ToggleKey //[undef] //-Toggles the magnify shader

but the grey bar comes back

it is possible to make it work in my resolution?

Well Dr.Serino I would delete the game re install and try it again. I don't know how else to help as I have no information on what exactly could've gone wrong.
SenSx Jan 6, 2019 @ 3:08am
I doubt it.
I just changed my PC and had to re install it again, and it worked fine for 1080p.

They may have broken compatability with an update I'm not %100 sure
