A Brief History of ADAM Slugs
What is ADAM? It's a genetic wonder drug that allows people to rewrite their genes. It can be used for cosmetic surgery, combat enhancements, reflexes, intelligence, strength, anything, really. What many people might not know is its origin. It was discovered by Brigid Tenenbaum after she noticed that a fisherman with a crippled hand had been healed after being bitten by a sea slug. This species of sea slug naturally produces ADAM, but in too small of quantities to be useful for research and enhancements. Because of this, the slugs were implanted in the bodies of children (Little Sisters), enabling them to produce more ADAM.
Slugs In-Game
Each Adam Slug in the game gives 10 ADAM. There are 5 slugs in total, giving a total of 50 additional ADAM, enough for the Headhunter tonic, for example.
All of the slugs in the base game are located in underwater sections.

ADAM Slugs look like this:
Siren Alley Slugs
There are 3 slugs located in Siren Alley. All of them are found in the beginning underwater section. Make sure to get them all before you go through the airlock.

Slug #1: This one is easy. It's on the left of the main path, under a spotlight. Very hard to miss.

Slug #2: The second slug is near Slug #1. Right after you pass it, turn left of the path to look on the wall behind you.

Slug #3: There is a pipe on the left of the path. Inside it is the third slug.
Fontaine Futuristics Slugs
There are two slugs here, in separate underwater areas. These two are a little harder to find than the Siren Alley slugs.

Slug #4: This slug can be found in the very first underwater section. There is a collapsed tunnel with a corpse covered in silt. The slug is nearby.

Slug #5: The fifth and final slug is the hardest to find, since it requires a bit of walking. You may see this slug if you follow the Unstable Teleport Plasmid around enough, as one of the locations you get teleported is next to it. It is located in the underwater segment you go through once you unlock the real plasmid labs after accessing the security office. There is a part where you need to jump down a hole next to an Alpha Series corpse. Instead of taking the path to the airlock, there should be a flight of stairs nearby. Go up the stairs and there should be a ledge that leads back to where you jumped down the hole. The slug is right on the ledge.
Minerva's Den DLC
There are a total of nine named slugs in the Minerva's Den expansion. Some of them are named for developers of Minerva's Den, apparently. You can see the name when you hover your crosshair over the slug with art captions on.

In general, the slugs of Minerva's Den are harder to find. Only eight are found underwater. The remaining ones are indoors, either inside of glass jars or in pools of water.
The glass jars are labeled "FRESH WATER", but don't be fooled! You can "sea" the slug (hehe) through the jars, and you cannot use telekinesis to pick them up like regular jars of fresh water. Just break them and claim your prize!

These are the named slugs in Minerva's Den.
  • Brandon
  • Collin
  • Devin
  • Jeff
  • Mario
  • Rinaldo
  • Scott
  • Steve
  • Will
Minerva's Den Slugs
This section will cover the slugs found in the first area, known simply as Minerva's Den.

All of these first four slugs are found in the underwater section where you start the game. Be sure to get all of them before going through the airlock.

#1 On a rock on the right side of the main path.

#2 On a wall on the right when entering the second area, which contains a broken wall with metal plates all over.

#3 On the back of a stone pillar with two blue lights when the player falls down a few feet and sees a staircase.

#4 Go past the above-mentioned staircase and wind around until reaching a stone pillar. It is up on the pillar.

The remaining slugs in this level are located inside the building and are mostly contained in glass bottles.

#5 Executive Wing: In a flooded employee office near the first Gatherer's Garden. It is inside the storage room next to a turret.

#6 Executive Wing: In the Boardroom. It is in a pool of water in front of the giant clock.

#7 Executive Wing: In the area locked with a Magnetic Lock. It is located in the back area next to a Turret. Normally, one can only enter this area after obtaining the Gravity Well Plasmid.

#8 McClendon Robotics: In the back office with a security camera, inside System Design.

#9 Air-Tite Archives: In the New Accounts office on the second floor of the Archives entrance.
Operations Slugs
Like the first part of Minerva's Den, this area has nine slugs. Four are found underwater, and five are indoors.

# 10 On a big window on the right side after coming out of the Airlock.

# 11 Behind a rock underneath some pink corals.

# 12 Next to a giant steel door opposite a group of pink corals. One can access this location by turning left when seeing a plant with strange, blue polyp-like buds.

# 13 On the top of a rock with an anchor. The player can jump on it from the cliff where the signal beacon is located.

The remaining slugs in this level are located inside the building and are mostly contained in glass jars.

# 14 Entrance: On the back of the reception desk, which is in front of the player when first entering this level.

# 15 System Programming: In Felix Birnbaum's Office. It is on a shelf directly opposite the door. One can only enter this room by buying a key from a nearby vending machine outside the room.

#16 Exhaust Venting: Next to the big venting machine. One can find it by turning left and finding the Vacuum Bot.

#17 Climate Control: Near a corpse in a semi-flooded area which can only be entered when crouching.

#18 Climate Control: On a desk in the room with the Climate Control console.
The Thinker Slug
#19
There is one more slug in Minerva's Den. It is in a jar located on a console to the right side before the Maintenance Access Shafts.
Enjoy your extra ADAM!
Way to go, slugger! Your as-salt on the slugs has helped you to sea the true potential of extra ADAM! And I would recommend buying the Instant Comedian plasmid, if your puns are as bad as mine.

I'm not sure the slug names (Minerva's Den) still exist in the Remastered version, I tried with Art Subtitles turned on as this guide says, but no names appear. In the original BioShock 2 the names were written on the jars themselves, but in the Remastered versions these have been replaced with "fresh water" and apparently the art subtitles have been removed as well.

Awesome to see you update this. Maybe label the final slug as #19 though?

Finally replayed Minerva's Den and fixed up this guide. All the slug pictures are in the right place now and added an image of the slug from Felix Birnbaum's office.

Last picture shows Tinker Slug while real #18 is actually missing.

Pictures 7,8,9 are out of order. Fix:
7->8
8->9
9->7
I'd even move whole #7 (text and pic, Magnetic lock) on #9 place because it's chronologically available last. Easier to follow that way. Thanks for adding pics, great guide.

You missed out one, at the final Thinker level: At the start of the said level, once you have to go downstairs, when you get through a door and before heading left, on the table to your right should be the final jar with the adam slug.

I took the pictures of the Minerva's Den slugs over a year ago, but I didn't bother uploading them until now. Enjoy the complete slug guide!
