Dev Blog #5 - Understanding the Immune System
CURE Alpha Patch Notes v1.03
Description
Release date: Late 2016
Welcome to CURE
– a multiplayer microbiology based Real Time Strategy Game.

You play as a scientist with the power to genetically modify your microbe to cure the worst diseases and protect humanity, or wreak havoc on the world with engineered mayhem. Playing around with the traditional RTS genre, CURE adds a unique upgrading system that you would normally find in an RPG. As you play, you can custom tailor your units using genetic engineering, and these changes are permanent. You can focus crafting a team that has a specific ability, and/or you can specialize your units so that they have specific properties – such as strength or speed. The more you play, the more you can create an ideal team to conquer your online opponents.

Features
  • Persistence: You can upgrade your units through evolution and genetic engineering, and these changes are permanent.
  • Dynamic Units: Your units are unique and distinguishable. How your units look is based on how you upgrade them. No two players will ever be the exact same.
  • Multiplayer: Quick paced highly competitive multiplayer.
  • Tournaments and Ladders: There are weekly and monthly events in CURE in which the winners receive unique abilities, units, and upgrades.
  • Science: CURE is built with science in mind, and uses the same fundamentals of microbiology that you would expect to learn about in a biology class.
  • Highly Strategic Gameplay: The strongest organism is not always the winner. Players can utilize their environment and intelligence to gain an advantage over their opponent.
  • Physical world: You can physically push objects around, and create fortifications or choke points to get the edge on your opponent.

Demo
We have created a single player demo! You can get access to it from our Gamekicker page here: https://crowdfunding.gamekicker.org/project/cure/

We created a single player demo because we wanted to show you what CURE would be like as quickly as possible. We are also going to use this single player environment to quickly test out new game mechanics we want to add to CURE.

Scenarios
In CURE your microbe will be pitted against other players creations in multiplayer combat. However your main goal will not always be to kill your opponent. Each match or experiment will have a different goal you will have to adapt to. In many experiments each player will have a different goal. This means that you will need to tailor your species to be able to handle different situations.

A few examples of possible experiments:

  • Kill your opponent: This would be your typical RTS game type where you have to destroy all of your enemies units in order to win.
  • Defend your environment / Destroy your environment: The defending player will have to destroy his enemy before they permanently hurt the environment.
  • Survive: Each player will have to survive in an increasingly hostile environment. The player that can survive the longest wins.
  • Resource domination: Each player will have to survive for a certain amount of time, and the player with the most resources consumed at the end of said time period will win.

We will add more as development continues

Bacteria
Bacteria will be starting organism type that we work on. Bacteria are simple life forms who use binary fission to reproduce creating copies of themselves. They also consume the chemicals present in the environment and use them to survive and flourish.

We will add more organism types as development continues

Evolution / Genetic Engineering
Evolution and Genetic Engineering drive the upgrading process for your units. When units reproduce they have a chance to incur mutations. These mutations are buffs that will stay on that unit, and if it breeds it will pass on that mutation to future generations. When the match is over the winner gets to keep all of their mutations as Genes. Genes can then be plugged into your units permanently. Think of Genes as an item and your units DNA as its inventory.

Been working on something like this myself "tho it's more based around full editing genetic code also my graphics are very ugly and the game is nothing more then changing a creatures look/color so far"
