About Xcylin

A vast planet hidden in the outer reaches of space, ruins of a long extinct civilization. You awake in the wreck of mankind's first and only interstellar starship, lightyears away from earth. Soon to find that you are humanity's last hope for survival from a disaster. A disaster that was supposedly caused by the inhabitants of this alien planet.

As you explore strange landscapes, you can't shake off the feeling that you are not alone ...

Xcylin is an open-world RPG that puts you on a planet where you need to explore, craft, and fight in order to survive. It features a strong story and a sophisticated dungeon generation system to ensure that no two missions play the same. Many challenging dungeons with their own secrets await you, and invite you to explore the history of an ancient alien race and the technology they left behind.

Once you have finished your mission, Xcylin's fully moddable engine ensures that there is a huge amount of community-made planets waiting for you to discover.

Xcylin has been under heavy development for the last four years and although the engine is quite stable yet, there are still a lot of things left to do. We are currently in the process of building the dungeon generator and creating more blocks, items, and NPCs. Follow the development of Xcylin on Twitter: @Moebiusdev and @Xcylin or visit our website

  • Craft new items directly in your inventory or use blueprints and replicator technology to create complex items
  • Build and use a multitude of weapons to protect yourself

  • Mod the game via Javascript and build your own custom world type with just a few lines of code

Q: When is the release planned?
A: We plan an early Alpha release and access as soon as possible but there are still some issues we have to address first.

Q: Where are you in the development of the game?
A: The engine is mostly done and we are now in the process of filling the world with dungeons, items and NPCs. The things you see in the Teaser are only a few of the planned items/blocks/NPCs.

Q: It looks like Minecraft - is it just another Minecraft clone?
A: Although we have to admit, that Minecraft inspired us to create Xcylin, we see Minecraft as the first representative of a new game genre, just as Doom was the first game of a genre that was then called “Doom clone” and is now known as “first-person shooter”. And although Minecraft and Xcylin share basic gameplay mechanics, they are in fact very different. Xcylin plays on a planet around which you can walk, it is set in the future, and gives you clear goals through a strong story line. Xcylin also features countless dungeons and secrets hidden on the planet. And of course, the blocks and items are also entirely different from Minecraft.

Q: Does Xcylin include multiplayer?
A: At the moment, we are focusing on a solid single player experience. Multiplayer done right is a challenging task but if the demand is high enough, we will try our best to build it.

Q: What other future enhancements / developments will be done on the game?
A: Lots and lots ... for instance we're planning to bring the game to Linux and maybe even Mac platforms, to further improve the engine, to create additional worlds with their very own unique gameplay ... and of course, the community will help us decide where the journey should go.

Q: What is the Xcylin engine?
A: The Xcylin engine is the core of Xcylin. It has been under heavy development in four years of hard and tireless labour by our chief developer! The Xcylin engine allows you to quickly build your own worlds with unique experiences by modifying textures and behaviour scripts. We will provide nice and easy tutorials to help you build your own world template.

Q: Can I pre-order the game?
A: Yes, you can do that on the game’s website We are using 100% of the money we make with pre-orders to finance the development of Xcylin.

Q: Who's behind this game?
A: Moebiusgames, a small gaming studio in Munich, Germany. Some people actually claim that the whole studio is run by "ultimate motivation and distraction" dog Máni.

Q: Where can I get news about the game?
A: You can follow our developer (@Moebiusdev) on Twitter or the official Xcylin account @Xcylin to get the most recent news concerning the development of Xcylin. And you can also visit our website

Most people hate games that look like minecraft, Usually it is a rip off, but then there are games that try to make a difference... Just wait and see maybe it will be more popular than minecraft

I don't understand why when games use block based voxels people go straight up to the devs and say that it is a rip-off of minecraft! Voxels are for everyone.

I want a large number of achievements and also steam stat tracking in the game. 100 or more achieve, achievements would be great! I can't wait, and yes it is VERY different than mindcraft.

Lord Crocosquirrel Feb 22, 2016 @ 10:33pm
I'm not sure what to make of this. Might be worth reviewing. Points to the dev for understanding that multiplayer needs to be done right, and that's not an easy thing. Solid singleplayer FTW.
