Developer Videos & More

The Forums[] are now live on the Overload Web Site[]. Join us for discussions about the game, our Kickstarter campaign, and classic 6DOF games.

Timelapse Developer Video

Lead Designer Luke Schneider made a couple very-cool timelapse videos of himself adding new features to Overload. Check them out on our YouTube channel.

Reddit AMA

Last week Mike Kulas and Matt Toschlog did a Reddit AMA ("Ask Me Anything") about Descent. There's lots of cool stuff in there about all the Descent games and Overload as well.

Sample Music

Dan Wentz, one of the composers on Overload (and veteran Descent developer) has produced his first sample music track. It's totally awesome, and you should check it out on our Kickstarter Update.

Kickstarter Campaign

Our Kickstarter Campaign is coming along nicely but we really need your help to get us over the top. We know a lot of people share in our desire to to see Overload become a reality and we need the backing of the community to make that happen. Please consider a pledge and encourage your friends to do the same. We've got some new reward options up so be sure to check them out. Thanks!

Release date: March 2017

Overload is the ultimate six-degree-of-freedom shooter from the creators of Descent. Overload is in development for Windows, Mac, and Linux for release in March 2017. We need your support to make Overload happen, so please visit Kickstarter campaign and back us if you can.

In 1995 Descent broke new ground as the first shooter where the action took place all around the player -- where up and down were just as important as left and right. Descent won numerous awards and spawned two sequels. Now in 2016 the creators of Descent -- Mike Kulas and Matt Toschlog -- are reunited in Revival Productions and working on Overload, a new 6DOF game that brings the intensity of Descent into the age of modern graphics and sound.

* Intense single-player action in 6-degrees-of-freedom
* 15 level campaign filled with explosive combat and exploration
* Story by the writer of FreeSpace 2
* Breathtaking graphics and spectacular sound, with a soundtrack by Dan Wentz & Allister Brimble
* More than a dozen sinister robot types and three massive bosses
* 12 upgradeable weapons
* 5 difficulty levels let you tune the game to match your abilities
* Fully customizable joystick, gamepad, mouse and keyboard controls

A multiplayer version is planned after the single-player release.

Overload has a classic inspiration, but that doesn’t mean it’ll look pixelated or have an 8-bit soundtrack. It uses the latest graphics technology to immerse you in the world. With physically-based rendering, dynamic shadows, and realtime global illumination, your eyes will be as engaged as your heart. Even when you can’t see a robot hiding around the corner, its shadow could give it away. And when you turn the tables and blow the robot to pieces, you're rewarded with some beautifully rendered particle effects.

Everyone at Revival is super excited to be bringing this game to life, and we need your help to make this game happen. Vote for us on Greenlight and make a pledge on Kickstarter.

one of my older friends who played the first few decents with his friends was telling me how great it was, and I was kinda sad I would never see another game like that. untill I was looking at my greenlit page and was like, "wait why did I greenli-" and I procceded to fangirl out when I found out this game is the new Descent in a way. another thing, I hope it has the immirsive 1st person view of the cockpit like the old ones did.:steamhappy:

Nope. Descent: Underground is being spear-headed by a former Star Citizen dev. They're able to use the name because Interplay was willing to license it to them (even though Interplay wasn't willing to license the name to either Sol Contingency devs or Revival Productions, the latter of which coded the original Descent for them in the first place).

So wait, Descent: Underground isn't by the creators of Descent?

The magic is back. Don't be fooled by the other clones. This is the real deal.

No need for keys or permission, Tryyton. The playable teaser is open to all, and there are already many youtube vids up by players. Streaming should be no problem.
