Sub-Buildings Enabler (DEPRECATED)

Description
This mod is now deprecated! The game developers added official support for sub buildings in the asset editor!

Sub-buildings are separate building assets which can be used to create assets which are larger than 16x8. For example, the feature is used by the International Airport (After Dark DLC). This mod enables the feature for workshop assets.

The mod is the official sucessor of the 'Larger Footprints' mod. It is no longer recommend to use that mod (but of course 'Larger Footprints' is still required for assets which were created with it).

About the mod:
  • Feature is officially supported by the game, no hacks.
  • You only need the mod to place down the building. Even if the mod breaks, your super-large buildings are still there.
  • Minimal, high-performance code (only active during loading screen)

But there are also other use-cases that larger buildings:
  • Use the same module multiple times. That means you can save a lot of memory and increase the rendering performance.
  • Create buildings with irregular-shaped footprints (composed of squares and circles)
  • Combine buildings with different functionalities (e.g. hospital + fire station).
  • Create buildings with multiple overlayed modules using different shaders (one that follows the terrain as a custom ground texture, one that does not)
  • Create "props" (actually buildings) that will not disappear when you zoom out. This is especially useful for larger decoration elements

Your link doesn't work.

No, the mod has no UI or functionality you can use.

Basically sub-buildings are multiple buildings that are automatically placed together (and look like a single piece). Before the feature was added to the asset editor, this mod was the only way to create them.

If an asset was created with this mod, you will need the mod to place down all building pieces at once. the mod links them up correctly. After that, you can safely disable the mod. The buildings will not disappear.

Also I understand that in many cases all it does is include things like metro stations underneath but what about, for example, Metropolitan University - Wing B , which lists Wing A as a requirement and is used "in conjunction" but no other info is given.

Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this!

I'm a bit confused. Does this mod, or specifically, ANY ASSET THAT REQUIRES IT, have any functionality in-game?

Like when assets still require it, why? Because it was used for creating them? Or because I actually need it to "combine" these buildings i.e. have them snap together?

if you want to place assets which list this mod as a dependency, you will still need it.

Is it safe to unsubscribe if some of my assets still require it?

The mod still works fine. You only need to place the asset anyway - plop whatever you need this mod first of all, then unsubscribe. Not difficult.
