Introduction
The point of this control scheme is to provide a large variety of button combination to acess needed ship functions while also allowing for the best uninterupted control during combat. Currently I'm only going to upload my personal control scheme which has been polished to my own likings. Later I will upload different kinds of control schemes to allow for different throttling control (currently in progress) and to accomodate for peoples suggestions in the comments. I hope you like this layout and can make it work for you considering it may be quite complex.

Note that the currse scheme I have may take some practice to get used to but I grouped most of the keys together with like buttons so it's not too harsh.
How to add this layout to your list of controls
First thing first is to find your Bindings folder which can be found at

Windows:
  • C:\Users\<YOUR USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings
Mac: (this is the bindings foler but I don't even know if you can use an XBox controller on Mac 0_o)
  • /Users/<YOUR USERNAME>/Library/Application Support/Frontier Developments/Elite Dangerous/Options/Bindings
Note: There are two Frontier Developments folders make sure you are in the one without the "_"
Note 2: The AppData folder is hidden by default so you can either search %Appdata% in the search bar and navigate back to AppData or in File Explorer click View then options and under the view tab there should be 2 selectable circle things under "hidden files and folders" and if you select show hidden you will be able to permanantly see those folders.

After you've found the folder either download v1.1 Inverted or v1.1 Standard and drag the .binds file into the bindings folder.
If that doesn't work, copy the file called Custom.binds that you should already have in your bindings folder and make a new one called Zeph's Layout. Once that is done, open the new file in a word editer such as notepad or similar programs and delete all of the contents of the file. At this point you are ready to drag the code from the link into the newly created folder and save it.

After you have the new .binds file go ahead and launch the game and it should appear in controls with the name of the file you used from the dropdown menu on top.
Download/View
I'm currently using Google Drive to host the files, if anybody has any issues with it let me know and I'll try and figure out an alternate method.

Controlls - The Difference
Throttle and Landing:

The biggest difference in this layout is that the throttle defaults at 50% engine so you can maneuver in combat without losing your turning speed edge and uses the left stick click to slow to 0% and the B button to speed up to 100%. Pressing the Y button will also toggle reverse so you can kite those very agressive fighters and get some more shots in.

Because of this throttle change I made the landing gear so that once it's deployed (and you hit left stick click to set speed to 0 after the gear is down) you can maneuver much more precisely with left and right triggers as the vertical thrusters and LB+RS as the horizontal ones and throttle now defaults at 0 and can be tapped.

This Layout also uses the Left Bumper and Right Bumpers as modifier keys unlocking an enourmous ammount of usable combos to allow quick access to nearly every portion of your ship + more.

Change Log:
    Upcomming:
  • Soon I will be adding a control Layout much more familiar to those who have become accostomed to the default settings but still has a wide variety of controls added and other slight adjustments.
  • Currently creating a single picture of the controls but not sure if i can fit it all in ;O
  • More pictures???
  • I do plan on keeping this updated for the upcoming horizons update so make sure to check back.
  • Need to find a spot for Wingman's target
  • Try to find some way to allow for full combat maneuverability so CQC isn't a struggle (current issue is finding convenient keys for thrusters, only available keys are lb and rb + analog sticks but that has conflicts with axis controlled aiming which i find nescesary).
  • Further testing

10/4/2015 v1.0:
Guide uploaded (in need of work still)

10/5/2015 v1.1:
Major changes including,
  • Changed all galaxy map directional buttons to axis to make for smoother sailing.
  • Added Disable Flight Assist to LB + Back
  • Moved Ship Lights from RB + RS -> to LB + D-Pad Up
  • Changed Roll to use raw axis rather than RS <- and ->
  • Moved the Left and Right thrusters to LB + Left Stick <- and ->
  • Added Headlook Toggle to LB + X
  • Removed Target Wingman's Target
Thanks
Please Comment on anything I could change, I'm still very open to suggestions and can make multiple downloads for different accomodations if need be.

Thank you for taking a look at my guide and happy hunting, trading, mining, exploring, whatever it is you do!

Also a big thanks to  for helping me make this guide possible. has also made his own guide to his XBox 360 control scheme at http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=528623829.

imo it's worth it to just get an xbone controller or a HOTAS, xbone has much better sticks

I do check back here now and then if anyone has suggestions, but i haven't been playing lately and i switched to using the steam controller which seems to be difficult with flight games and currently trying to figure that out. I was planning on updating for horizons but I'm not sure if I actually want to spend the money on the expansions since i've greatly slowed down playing the origional.

@FearfulSky Thanks for the idea of the picture, I can see how it would be very helpful but it might be kind of hard for me to set up because of all the modifier keys but i'll see what I can do. and as for the bindings folder did you make sure you went into the right frontier developments folder? it should be the one WITHOUT the _ i highlighted the one u should use in this pic http://puu.sh/kPATa/a9eb8ad798.png . I beleive the binding folder is there by default but incase it's missing just change some settings in-game and it should automatically generate it somewhere.

Suggestion: Please do add a picture of the layout on a controller, its easier to "read" and makes this easier to approach.

Help: I cant find the bindings folder on my pc in that path. Its not hidden and I dont know where to look.

@ Cap'n Saccade
There are many reasons I made a controller scheme rather than voice commands because voice commands have their limitations too. If someone has a large ammount of background noise or their mic just sucks it may trip up and not work 100% of the time. Personally I have a mic and everything but I would rather sit back on my bed that my headset doesn't reach with my 7.1 surround system and just relax. One other huge reason is that if you want to play with friends with a voip it makes it very difficult to switch between ship commands while talking at the same time. Really I just made this for people are looking to just use the controller, of course not everyone is going to use it. I'm just putting Options out there.

This guide is pretty much a copy & paste of ZeroInterface's guide, with a few minor changes that do not suit my preferences and i will be suprised if it suits anyone else's.
