Black Ops config

A lot of players out there dont know anything about how a config file works.
This guide will hopefully help...
I'm not the best person to explain this but I'll try to make the best of it.
My english is also not very good but yeh... try to live with it XD
I'll put in some explanation what most of the binds in the config do.
I'm not going to deep in detail just to keep it simple.
If you see something missing or something completely wrong plz let me know.

Preparations

You can not say one config is better then another. Every config is different just like everyone is using another system.
Some config's dont work well with some systems, so go ahead and try out wich config is best for your system.

There are a lot of config's out there, just visit GamerConfig [www.gamerconfig.eu] and download one for your own.

Find your config on your PC: Computer > OS (C:) > Program Files(x86) > Steam > SteamApps > common > Call of duty Black Ops > players > config_mp

If you never used your config before you will probably still have the default config. It would be wise to store it in a place where you can easily access it.

Change your whole config

If you know how to get to your config and it worked for you before then this is not for you.
The video is just to show how to change your config and what difference it makes in game.

expl #1 - Graphics and FPS

All the commands that will help with Graphics and some FPS boost.
0 is off and 1 is on obviously. Do with it what you want, take it to far and your game looks like ♥♥♥♥.

seta r_multiGpu "1"
This command enables you to run 2 cards in the game, enable this if you have sli or crossfirex going on

seta r_multithreaded_device "0"
This command enables = 1/disables = 0 Multi core proccessing for most people it will make them lag more, but for the odd few it will help their fps/stutter problems. Worth a try

seta r_dof_enable "0"
Disables useless bluring from far distances and when you aim down the site, slight advantage.

seta r_specular "0"
Disables specular lighting, useless lighting that hogs gpu usage and makes your gun and other objects shiner. This will also give you an fps increase.

seta cg_brass "0"
Enables/Disables the drawing of bullets coming out of your gun.

seta cg_blood "1"
Enables/Disables the drawing of blood.

seta r_distortion "0"
Disables distortion from flame effects and other explosions, will also give you a very small advantage and fps increase.

seta cg_motionblur_duration "0"
seta cg_motionblur_fadeout "0"
Helps a little with some blur.

seta com_maxfps "125"
Standard default for Quake-engine based game. At 125 FPS you are able to jump just a little higher, and having this FPS will also improve reg a tad. Put it as high as you want.

seta r_aaAlpha "off"
Disables Anti-aliasing. Highly recommended for an FPS boost. Chances are you cant even notice the difference while playing. aaSamples remove the jaggedness of lines in pc graphics.

seta r_aaSamples "1"
The actual amount of AA samples. This is lowest, and I am not even positive if this needs to be changed if it is set to off.

seta r_blur_allowed "0"
Self-explanatory but plz, blur just looks lame right?

seta r_fastSkin "1"
This one is debatable if you want to disable/enable. Try it and see.

seta r_gfxopt_water_simulation "0"
Water related command. Water takes up useless amounts of CPU to do, so disable this for a little boost on maps with lots of water.

seta r_glow_allowed "0"
Simple, disables glow.

seta r_motionblur_maxblur "0"
seta r_motionblur_numberOfSamples "0"
More motion blur related items, setting to 0 will disable them.

seta r_texFilterAnisoMin "1"
seta r_texFilterMipMode "Force Bilinear"
Anthropic filtering related stuff, editable in game menu. Usually doesnt make a huge impact...

seta r_vsync "0"
Disables syncing frames with the refresh rate of your monitor, highly recommended to set to 0.
otherwise you wont get more then the amouth of hz from your screen

expl #2 - Gameplay tweaks

Do you want to make video's or do you just want to get a better gameplay?
Here are some tweaks...

seta r_skyColorTemp "1650"
6500 is default, 1650 is bright orange, 3250 mid colour, 25000 is bright blue

seta cg_chatHeight "5"
chat lines in game, set to 0 to set off (good for making video's)

seta waypointIconHeight "15"
seta waypointIconWidth "15"
Sets the size of waypoints in game a little smaller. Like the A, B bombsites, and flags.

seta cg_hudDamageIconHeight "175"
seta cg_hudDamageIconWidth "80"
Set it to these to turn the direction hit alert, into an arrow, rather than a circle. Adjust the values to get your most preferred.

seta con_gameMsgWindow0LineCount "6"
Increases the killfeeds ammount of lines, max is 9 but I think 6 or 7 is the best

seta con_gameMsgWindow0MsgTime "10"
Increases the killfeed staying time, This was the default value in mw2 but black ops is 5 for some reason.

seta r_gfxopt_dynamic_foliage "0"
Setting this command to 0 can give you a huge advantage and a small fps increase, it prevents the rendering of certain foilage at certain distances.

seta cg_drawcrosshair "0"
Disables the drawing of the crosshair on your screen.

seta cl_yawspeed 750
Makes the movement of binds that make you turn faster, useful for 360's 720's or even to abuse in the chopper gunner/gunship because of the no slowdown rate of +left or +right

seta cg_hudGrenadeIconEnabledFlash "1"
Enables the hud icon for flashes, very useful if you're a try hard ^^, or just want a tactical advantage.

expl #3 - Network

seta snaps "30"
Amount of updates you get from the server per second. Default is 20 but 30 helps with better hitregistration.

seta cl_maxpackets "100"
Max packets to be sent to the server. 100 is max, and best, but some people find using others like 43 or such works better. The difference not always noticeable. Just keep it 100.

seta rate "25000"
Increases the rate of data to the server, meaning better ping, and reg.
seta sv_maxRate "25000"
25000 is the Max rate.

expl #4 - Mouse

If you have a good mouse but its not preforming well in game take a look at this.
You want it to be as smooth as possible so keep the smoothing max and min as low as possible.
Just like the smoothingTime, you want that as short as possible too.

seta cl_mouseAccel "0"
Very important. Stops the annoying acceleration on the mouse. Disabling it in Windows will help a lot.

Hey, Bandaids. Do you know how to do this for Black Ops 2 (Zombies)? I need to flip ADS (L2) and Fire (R2) to L1/R1. Been searching several COD Reddit subs, Google, Steam and I can’t find any solutions, only people with the same problem throughout this decade.

@kratos. VAC does not ban for console command or config-related changes. If you made changes using an external console, you will receive a vac ban. External consoles inject themselves into the game similar to various cheats.

Paronicon is an admin tool used by server admins to police their servers. I am not aware that the tool actively scans your config for changes. Unless you are playing through a a modified server browser/modded game.

can changing any of these things get you banned from servers in multiplayer? i changed alot of stuff then the first game i played i was banned from Paronicon 2. i do not use any cheats/mods only changed the stuff thats in this guide

Hi, is there a way to make blood and bullet impact decals to stay longer?

@Fiend119, r_fastSkin is a command likely related to the skinning of player models. 'Fast' probably relates to a lower graphic version. The command goes back to CoD4, and likely has no affect in treyarch's version of the engine for this game.

r_streamFreezeState removed fog, particle effects like snow, and burning embers/smoke seen in Jungle if I recall correctly. I do not have the game installed to test it out via external console.

In my opinion it made the game look "cleaner" not worse visually. Maybe less real though

There is no reason not to use it and its not cheat protected, still. But, you can't enable it without using an external console now, and I'm quite positive that will get you VAC'd. It has to be enabled every map switch.

@Bandaids Does r_streamFreezeState make your game look worse? Are there any reasons not to use it?
