Burly Men at Sea now has a release date and Steam page!
We've been Greenlit!
Description
Release date: Late 2015
Burly Men at Sea is a folktale about a trio of large, bearded fishermen who step away from the ordinary to seek adventure.

Set in early 20th-century Scandinavia, the story branches through discovery in a series of encounters with creatures from folklore. You play as the storyteller and wayfinder, shaping the narrative around the characters through interaction with their environment.

Gameplay also centers around the use of storybook-style vignettes, which are dragged to direct character movement and to uncover—or sometimes create—a path forward.

FEATURES

  • Bright, clean art style influenced by Scandinavian illustration.
  • Branching storyline, reliant on exploration and discovery.
  • Storybook-style narrative.
  • Traditional frame-by-frame character animation.
  • Different adventure with each subsequent playthrough.

BACKGROUND

Burly Men at Sea is the second game by husband-and-wife team Brain&Brain, creators of point-and-click adventure Doggins[dogginsgame.com]. Doggins was released in early 2014 and was nominated for the SXSW Gamer's Voice Award and Indie Prize Best Mobile Game.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

"Likely to be the beardiest game of the year, it’s an adventure game about exactly what it says – large gentlemen exploring the ocean."
rockpapershotgun.com

"The most pleasant surprise for me from the entire convention…The simplistic controls along with crisp art style and luscious soundtrack help lend to a story that I'm ready to get lost in!"
– Crunchyroll

"Its colours are light and friendly, its graphics are curvy, and it's actually quite cute-looking."
