How To Get Into Modded Servers
When initially entering the game, there will be the familiar server list of all the possible servers you can join. These are categorized on the left. There are 3 public server categories: Official, Community, and Modded. Click on the Modded tab to show a list of available modded servers that you can join. Likely, the names of the modded server will have info on what mods they use.
FAQ: Do I need to install any extra things on my computer to run mods?
No, you do not need to install any special programs or such in order to play on modded servers. The regular Rust application already has everything you need to run a modded game.

(Keep in mind these are the same people who made Gmod, so modding is nothing new to the devteam)
Instant Craft Mod (aka InstaCraft)
The first mod of this guide, InstaCraft, is a common mod seen in almost every modded server in Rust. The purpose of this mod is simple: it eliminates the crafting time when making an item. So when you click the "Craft" button in the crafting interface, you will not have to wait for the item to be made. The item will instantly be completed and placed in the first available spot of your inventory (or on the ground if your inventory is full.) So if you hate having to wait for that Hatchet to be crafted, this is the mod for you!
Gather Rate Mod
The Gather Rate Mod is a pretty common mod as well. It increases the amount of resources a player collects from trees, rocks, pickable plants/items, quarries, pump jacks, and etc. For example, you can see a boosted gather rate from the rock in the picture to the left. How mch the rate is boosted depends on the server. Here's how it works:

Say a server has a 5x gather rate.
The normal rate of gathering wood from a tree with a rock would be 10 wood per swing.
Multiply that amount by 5, and you get 50 wood per swing instead of 10.
This also applies to anything that can be mined/extracted, as well as objects you can pick from the ground (like Hemp Fibers which provide Cloth).
Gather rates commonly range anywhere from 2x to 10x, as well as the occasional 20x or 100x.
There are a few servers that have an extremely high gather rate of 1,000x to 150,000x!
(150,000x gather = 1,500,000 wood per swing with a Rock!)

Common gather rate mod annotations: (example: 5x Gather Rate)
5x
5x Gather
5x Loot
Kits Mod
The Kits Mod is a helpful mod that allows players to obtain better starting equipment. There are 3 main types of kits:

Spawn Kits: Kits that are automatically redeemed when respawned

Command Kits: Kits that must manually be redeemed via a command (usually /kit "kitname")

Blueprint Kits: Command Kits that are specifically meant to give out non-default blueprints to give the player a headstart in game progress

In general, a "kit" is a type of redeemable bundle of items that can be used to give players stuff, like for example a starter kit with full Burlap clothing and a Revolver. Kits can have three types of limitations:

Position: Some kits are only redeemable by server admins and moderators.
Time: After being redeemed, a kit may have a cooldown period until that same kit can be redeemed again.
Amount: Some kits come in limited amounts, and can run out after a certain number of uses.

Special kits, like Blueprint Kits may have more than one of these restrictions. In order to use a kit, for example a so-called "Daily" kit, you would open the chat overlay and typically enter /kit Daily .
For general info on what kits are available and their restrictions, just type in /kit .
Time restrictions are measured in seconds, and 86400 seconds is equal to one day.
Amount restrictions, like a kit with 5 uses, would usually show as "5 max" or "5 uses".
Kits depend on the server, as kits have to be custom-made by the staff of the server itself.
Oxide Mod
The Oxide Mod is a complex mod that uses a server plugin called "Oxide" to add extra info and a new UI into the chat system. It is commonly used with other mods, such as the Kits Mod. Oxide can provide info that varies over different servers, and sometimes two or more servers in the same network will use the same set of data for Oxide, allowing one to carry stats and other info across servers. Oxide can provide data for a variety of things, such as:

  • A stat system, for example how many player kills the specific player has made.
  • A level and XP system, in which leveling up provides added benefits like better gather rate
  • The specific time of day
  • Notifications
  • Tips on how to use other mods
  • and much more!

Oxide is one of the most versatile mods, as it can be tweaked to almost anything, from a role-playing status system to an economy, and more!

Below you can see the Oxide Mod in action, with a Level/XP system:
Compass Mod
The Compass Mod is a simple, relatively uncommon mod that allowsw the player to navigate the world easier. What it does is that it basically shows what direction you are facing at the moment. So if you are facing the north, it will show as "Compass: North" or "Compass: N". This can help a lot with navigation, especially if it is paired with a map. The Compass Mod often shows as a translucent text box over on the top-left of the screen, although some servers have tweaked theirs to show at the top-center or top-right. Some compass boxes may even have coordinates on them, like with the example below.
Limited Ladders Mod
NOTE: As of Devblog 75, placing ladders in a blocked building area is no longer possible, and therefore this mod is now rendered useless.

Are you absolutely sick of people building ladders onto your property? Wish that ladders were part of the building privilege system? Don't want to spend the resources into making anti-ladder defenses? Then this mod is right for you! This mod basically changes ladders to follow the building privilege system, so in order to place a ladder (within a cupboard's radius) one must have access to the cupboard. Otherwise, like foundations and other structures, ladders cannot be placed. This mod is great for those who are often raided by ladder-wielding looters.
Teleport Mod (aka tp)
This mod is another fairly popular mod which allows the player to teleport at will to other players. Here's how the system works:

Say I want to teleport to my friend Blaberous. I would have to use a special command targeted at my friend to request a teleport, which is in most servers the /tpr command.

After /tpr I would put down the name of the person I want to send the request to. So in this case, /tpr Blaberous. (You may have trouble tpr-ing to a person with spaces in their name.) After I sent my tp request, Blaberous will receive a message saying that I want to teleport to him. He then has 30 seconds (more or less depending on the server) to accept my tp request with the /tpa command. If he does, then I will receive a message saying he accepted my request, and in about 5-15 seconds, I will be teleported to his location. You will need to wait a brief moment of time (depends on the server) after the teleport is accepted before you actually teleport. The chat will say to you and to no one else, "Teleporting to (player name) in (X) seconds!" This next part is important. In this brief amount of time, usually about 10 seconds, avoid taking any kind of damage. Otherwise your teleport will be interrupted. The reason why the mod is made that way is so players can't get into a fight and teleport out in the middle of it.

Again, keep in mind that these time figures are approximate, and vary by server. Also keep in mind this is for if I want to teleport to him, not vice versa.

NOTE: If your teleport target is on a ceiling, or on a rock high off the ground, he will need to relocate. This is because you can only accept teleport requests on ground level, or on a foundation.

If you want your friend to teleport to you, he will have to send a teleport request to you.
Home Mod
The Home Mod is a mod that highly resembles the Teleport Mod. But instead of teleporting to other players, it allows the player to set "home" locations and teleport to them. For example, if one went out resource collecting and forgot where their base was, they could tp back to their set home. Like the Teleport Mod, the Home Mod uses a small set of commands to work. Here's how to use them:

Step 1: Get on a foundation (not the ground, not a ceiling) that you wish to set your home as. This will be the place you teleport to. Then, enter into the chat /sethome (home name). For example, if you want to set a home for your outpost, you could do /sethome outpost .

Step 2: When you wish to teleport back to your set home, type in /home (home name). Like the Teleport Mod, you will need to wait a brief moment of time (depends on the server) after typing in the command before you actually teleport. The chat will say to you and to no one else, "Teleporting to (home name) in (X) seconds!" This next part is important. In this brief amount of time, usually about 10 seconds, avoid taking any kind of damage. Otherwise your teleport will be interrupted. The reason why the mod is made that way is so players can't get into a fight and teleport out in the middle of it.

Step 3: Once you have teleported, the game will load up as if you were respawning (except you still have your stuff and the status bars remain the same) and you can wake up in your set home location and continue on.

With this system, you can set a certain amount of homes that depends on the server, but is usually more than one. So if you set a home called outpost and a home called base, you can choose which to teleport to when typing in the command. Do not put spaces between the home's name as this will cause an error to occur.

Many servers also have a cooldown time when you teleport home, so be sure to use this sparingly!

Relevant Commands:
/home (home name) : Teleports you to your set home (potentially after a set timer)
/sethome (home name) : Sets a home to your current location. Usually you have to be standing on a ground-floor foundation to do this.
/removehome (homename) : Removes a home that you've set. NOT UNDO-ABLE.
/listhomes : Shows a list of all the homes you have set.
/tphelp home : Might help you out in-game. But not as in-depth.
Fast Smelt Mod
Like the InstaCraft Mod, the Fast Smelt Mod is a mod designed to speed up the process of crafting (or in this case, smelting, cooking or refining). When this mod is active, you can smelt dozens, even hundreds of ore at a time instead of the regular amount. You can also cook food much faster and refine oil faster. The increase in the rate depends on the server, and is often used with the InstaCraft and Gather Rate mods.
Radline Mod
The Radline Mod is a complex mod that functions similar to the Oxide Mod, using the chat channel as its method of notification. It adds a new element to the game for those who often loot radtowns and/or depend on their loot to survive in the world of Rust. Once about every 30 minutes, although this depends on the server, the radiation in all the radtowns is disabled for about another 30 minutes. This provokes players to raid the radtowns and take the oppurtunity of getting away unscathed. However, this may mean that there would be a rather high density of players attempting to loot the radtowns, possibly resulting in unnecessary conflict. To help out even more, when the radiation is switched off or on, notifications appear in the chat. For example, "RADLINE: Radiation has been disabled for 30 minutes!!" Overall, this provides a slightly different gaming experience for the weaker half of Rust's players.
Clans Mod
The Clans Mod aims to resemble the cooperative feeling of working with groups in Rust, but without the hassle. It introduces the solid mechanic of clans. For those who are not familiar with clans, a clan is a group of people who choose to work together in Rust. This may mean sharing bases, doing cooperative mass raids, or simply having each others backs. Often in Rust, people do try to create makeshift clans in Rust, but it can be tricky to communicate with all the people in the group. So, with the Clans Mod, a player can create their own clan, and manage it with ease. Here's the set of commands one can use with the Clans Mod:

/clan - views the info/status of the player's clan, or if the player is clanless, a help command to help them get started. See the two pictures above.
/clan help - displays all the available command with the clan system, and is basically a brief guide to the mod
/clan create (clan name) (clan tag) - creates a clan, making the creator the owner of the clan
/clan invite (player name) - invites a specific player to join the clan
/clan kick (player name) - kicks a clan member out of the clan
/clan promote (player name) - promotes a clan member to a higher rank
/clan demote (player name) - demotes a clan member to a lower rank
/clan disband - disbands and removes the clan permanently, kicking all pmembers of the clan and erasing its existence. This cannot be undone!

When a person who is part of a clan uses the command /clan, they can see which members of the clan are currently online, as well as the quantity of online members.

Anything regarding the rank change/kicking of a clan member requires a higher ranking than just the typical member, such as the clan moderator or clan administrator. The clan owner automatically has clan administrator privileges.

The "tag" of the clan is a short sequence of letters, numbers, and/or symbols abbreviating or representing the clan. This is visible in brackets in front of any clan member as they talk in chat or interact in that server. For example, if ABC was the clan tag, my name would show up in chat as [ABC] Great Hero J. This is only in effect in that specific server. It will not show in your Steam profile or any other server in Rust.
Coordinates Mod
The Coordinates mod is a simple mod that allows you to see your coordinates in the world, possibly for navigational purposes. In order to use the mod, you have to type a command into the chat (usually /coordinates or /where) and your set of coordinates will pop up in the form of X, Y, and Z.

For example:
X: 134.22
Y: -7028.45
Z: 902.79

Basically it shows how far away you are in comparison to the center of the map.
The X and Y coordinates show how far away laterally you are, and the Z coordinate shows your height/depth.

Player Info Mod (aka /who or /list)
The Player Info mod is a mod that shows how many players are online in the server. It can also be tweaked to show a text box with the number of players online and sleepers at the moment, as well as notify the player when a person has joined/left (although this is usually the job of the Notifier Mod). If there isn't a floating text box, you will have to type in a command (usually /who or /list) to view a list of the players online, as well as the amount. The picture below on the left shows an example of one such text box, which has also been tweaked to display the server's name.
Battle Royale Game Mode
The Battle Royale Mod is a very unique mod that only 4 servers in the world have! All you Arma fans out there probably know what it is, or for you Minecraft fans, this is a variation of the Survival Games minigame. In this mod, every normal sense of Rust is thown out the window except for the most basic one: survive.

All the players spawn simultaneously on a modified map, and using nothing but what they have, they must scour the land for loot to help them survive. Players may kill each other, or alliances can be formed. They spawn with only a torch, bandage and a completed map, and must loot handmade radtowns to get better gear. The object of the game is to be the last living person left, and if a player dies they go into a special "spectator" mod from which, in third person, they can watch other living players go on. In spectator mode, one cannot send messages to living players, and spectators can switch between different contestants as they wish.

The map players spawn with is special; it shows the locations of all the "radtowns" (some of them are admin-built structures that have loot spawns) as well as the constantly shrinking playable area. If a player wanders outside of the playable area, they will take damage.

The airdrops and loot spawns on the server are specially tweaked to give out loot that helps the players in their situations, usually weapons, ammo, medical supplies or attire. Airdrop planes move much faster than normal, and there are often muliple airdrops in the sky at a time.

Whenever a player dies, the status of the game/lobby changes, or players join/quit, corresponding notifications will show. If a player joins during a game, they will have to wait in spectator mode until the game ends and all the players are transferred to the lobby. When pressing the Tab key in spectator mode, a player can see the statistics of the top 10 players in terms of kills and other data.

Players cannot collect resources manually in Battle Royale. The only way of obtaining supplies is via loot drops/airdrops. Players also do not suffer from hunger, cold, or heat.

Below is the screen viewed before a player enters the game.
EconoShop Mod
This is a fairly uncommon mod that allows the creation of an economy in the server.
Each player has their own budget of money, which they can use to "buy" items from the in-game market. They can also sell items they have on them, as well as "steal" money from other players when killing them. In some servers with this mod, prices can flunctuate up or down, just like the real economy. In order to interact with the economy system, players must use a set of commands in the chat overlay. These commands depend vastly on the server.
Increased Stacks Mod
This mod is very commonly found in mods with instacraft and a boosted gather rate. Basically what this mod allows the player to do is carry items in increased stacks as opposed to the regular game. For example, in regular Rust, wood will only stack up to 1,000 in your inventory. On a modded server, however, there may be, say a 1,000,000 stack limit. This mod allows players to carry a lot more, and encourages resource gathering. Also, if the server has a high gather rate, this prevents the player's inventory from filling up too fast when harvesting resources. Below you can see a player with many stacks of 500,000 and up instead of the normal 1,000.
(It may be hard to see, so click on the image to zoom in).
Tweaked Decay Mod
This mod is for servers that want to change their in-game decay timer. Decay, as you may know, is a destructive, natural process when structures are left unattended for extended periods of time. After a certain amount of time left alone, the structures will take damage until a locked door is opened or closed nearby by a player, or the structure gets destroyed. If a server owner decides the decay timer is not to thier liking, they can tweak the decay timer to be faster or slower (usually the latter) until they are satisfied. Decay can even be completely disabled for some building tiers.
Instant Storage Mod (aka Instant Deposit)
This mod is a special mod that makes storing things a bit easier. Ever wanted to avoid the hassle of sorting your items? Find the drag-and-drop storage system a pain in the neck? Well then, this mod allows the player to instantly deposit items from their inventory into a given storage object. For example, if you had just gone out and collected some resources, you can go back to your base's storage box(es) and simply click on the "Resources" button to deposit all your resources on hand. The mod is also designed to not deposit anything in your hotbar or your attire slots, so you can use the mod without worrying about unintently storing your equipped weapons and having to pull them out again. Below is a picture of what the mod adds to the storage screen:
Tweaked Loot Tables Mod
This mod is common in most servers where kits and heightened gather rates exist. The mod is basically a mod for admins who want to change the loot that spawns in airdrops, barrels, crates, and etc. For example, a radtown could be tweaked to spawn much more practical loot, or combat-specific items, or special kinds of ammunition and etc. The possibilities for special gameplay arise with this mod. See the picture below showing a radtown loot crate with much better than normal loot.

Sometimes, the gather rate of resources, as well as the spawn frequency of the resource nodes are also tweaked.

Battlefield Game Mode
Like the Battle Royale Mod, this is a mod that changes not only the gameplay, but the server itself. In the Battlefield Mod, you spawn with a combat kit of guns, medical equipment, food and armor. Typically this sort of thing would make you the top dog in the server, but everyone else spawns with these. The entire server is ablaze in gunfights, and even the spawns are laden in gunfire. This server is a great server for those who wish to practice their combat skills, or just for those who want to carelessly fight without any depressing consequences.
Gungame Game Mode
This mod is very similar to the Battlefield Mod, but also resembles Demolition Mode in CS:GO for all those Counter-Strikers out there. It's a classic deathmatch sort of thing where you start out with a revolver. Killing someone else will upgrade your weapon to something better, like for example Revolver to Semi-Automatic Pistol. There can only be one winner, so alliances are useless. If you die, your progress gets halted right in its tracks, and your progress can even be reversed from being killed by a hatchet.
Red vs Blue Game Mode
In the Red vs Blue game mode, you spawn with one of two teams on the Savas Island map, fully armed. The goal is to take control of the central hill, snatch airdrops and avoid being mowed down by the attack helicopter. The teams spawn on opposite sides of the map, and you should enjoy playing this gamemode if you are more of a team player, or tend to do raids in groups.

If you're an administrator of Rust Wiki, then PLEASE take actual care of it. Right now it's being updated by randoms who can barely even edit a page properly, and in this state it's got about 10%
of info about this game.
