Description
The Cherokee

This mod adds The Cherokee, led by John Ross!

The Cherokee are the largest federally recognised tribe in the United states. Historically one of the powerful and dominant nations of the southeast, the Cherokee created a nation state in the 19th century, merging both European and traditional native culture. They created a phonetic writing system, established industry and created the first native American newspaper, the Cherokee Phoenix. Despite the efforts of the Great Principal Chief John Ross, they were unfortunately evicted by the US in what became known as the trail of tears. Today most Cherokee reside in Oklahoma, and their culture is experiencing a revival.

Mod details

Leader-John Ross

Trait-"Acculturation"

"Gain 5% of the science produced in foreign cities you have a trade route connected to. Scientists yield +2 great writer points and great works of literature yield +2 science."

Unique unit-"Aniwina"

"Replaces the musketman, -2 combat strength, but ignores enemy zone of control, gains extra movement, and may retreat from enemy attacks"

unique building-Syllabary School

"Replaces the Public School. +10% great person generation per outgoing trade route (max 30%). Two slots for a great work of literature."

Strategy

The Cherokee are diverse and adaptive. They receive significant science bonuses which are boosted by works of writing and trade routes, so wonders like Petra which unlock more trade routes can be very useful. As the Cherokee have a strong focus on writers and to a lesser extent, other great people, they make a good cultural civilisation, but whatever path you choose, the Cherokee will certainly benefit from a tall playstyle. For more strategies, head here.

Supports-Core JFD's cultural diversity, YNAEMP, RED units, CIV IV leader traits, unique cultural influence, piety and prestige, Decisions but no Events

Please read the below!

-Writer points, science from works of literature and extra science from trade routes do not show up as direct yields.

Heya, this a great Cherokee mod. But can you be more specific in the credits as to which version of Amazing Grace you used? As there is a million versions of that song

Is anyone else having an issue with this civ disappearing from the choices when paired with the YNAEMP?

Oh but good job on the mod by the way and really good job with the history and all that. You did very well. Sorry I thought I said that earlier but just realized I didn't.

Oh I knew who he was. I wasn't saying he was a bad leader. Just that for this type of game where all the other natives look more primitive it's weird that one tribal leader is wearing a suit. xD That was my main point. lol

Besides, John Ross is a pretty interesting character, having led the Cherokee through their most tragic periods over several decades, campaigning for native rights etc.
