Nova Blitz is on Kickstarter now - back us today!
Play Nova Blitz Today
Release date: Second Quarter 2016
Nova Blitz is a real-time, digital, trading card game set in a science fiction universe ruled by five Aspects of energy: Arcane, Tech, Divine, Nature, and Chaos. As a Nova, you channel that energy to summon units, use powers, and knock out your opponent. In Nova Blitz, each turn plays out in real time, and both players play at the same time. This cuts out all the downtime players experience in a normal trading card game, and makes game play fast - games take less than 5 minutes each.

You can play the Nova Blitz Alpha today - download the Alpha for Mac or PC[]. In the Alpha, you'll find:
  • No Waiting: Unlike other trading card games, there’s no waiting for your opponent, so Nova Blitz games take less than 5 minutes.
  • Improved Shuffler: Our shuffler prevents resource screw – no more hands with no resources, or all resources.
  • Multiplayer: PvP play against opponents from around the world, plus a practice mode against a basic AI.
  • Deck Building: Build 60-card decks from our Alpha card set featuring over 200 cards, in any combination you'd like.

We'll be adding more features to the game as we continue development, including:
  • Smart Packs: All Nova Blitz packs are "Smart Packs". You can open a Smart Pack as a pack of any card set that's in our store - we don't lock you into a specific set, and you don't have to decide until you open the pack.
  • Drafting: Nova Blitz drafting lets you draft and play your games whenever you want – no waiting for an 8-player pod to fill up, and no waiting on a slow drafter.
  • Tournaments: Like everything else in the game, our in-game tournaments follow our "no waiting" philosophy - they're fast, so you can play a whole tournament in an evening.

When you vote for Nova Blitz, you become a part of our community. This lets you share your ideas with us - and work with our designers and developers on:
  • Card Design: We'll listen to your design ideas, discuss them with the community, and put the best ones in sets.
  • Feature Development: We'll work with the community to decide what features to develop, how they're designed, and when they're released.
  • Community Events: Special community events will have a direct impact on the game, its world, its characters, and its future.

The goal of Nova Blitz is to reduce your opponent’s Health to 0. You will do this through a combination of playing Powers and attacking with Units.

Resource cards are free, but you can only play one per turn. Playing a Resource does three things: it gives you 1 Energy immediately, it permanently increases your Maximum Energy by 1, and it unlocks that Resource’s Aspect (if you haven’t unlocked it already).

Power cards are played once, for an immediate effect, then go to the trash. Each Power has an Energy cost and an Aspect requirement — you can only play a Power if you have enough Energy and you’ve unlocked its Aspect.

Unit cards stay in play in the arena to participate in combat turn after turn. A Unit’s Attack is how much damage it deals in combat. Its Health is how much damage is required to destroy it.

At the start of each turn, both players refill up to their Maximum Energy and draw another card. Then there is an Action Phase followed by a Combat Phase.

Both players play cards in realtime during the Action phase, which lasts about 20 seconds. A shrinking bar shows how much time is left. The bar is broken into two halves. This is important! Units played in the first half of the phase can attack this turn. Ones played after the split have to wait until next turn (though they can still block).

Playable cards will be highlighted. To play a card, simply drag it from your hand into the arena. Some cards need a specific target to be played on. For these, you need to drag the card onto the thing you want to aim it at. Valid targets will be highlighted while you drag.

Any time you play a card, you give up Initiative to your opponent, and vice versa. The player who ends up with Initiative at the end of the Action Phase will have all your attacks executed first in the Combat Phase.

Clicking the Pass button can help speed up a turn. The Action Phase ends early if both players pass. Don’t worry about missing chances, though. If your opponent plays more cards after you pass, you’ll become active again so you can respond to the new situation. Similarly, if a player acts near the very end of the phase, the timer will refill by a few seconds. No one can snipe a card into play unanswered at the last moment.

In combat, both players secretly assign orders to their Units. Each Unit can either attack the opponent (by clicking the red fist icon) or try to block an enemy Unit (by clicking the blue shield icon, then the specific Unit to block).

Note: You can’t assign a Unit to attack another directly, and you can’t assign two Units to block the same enemy. You can leave a Unit unassigned. It simply won’t fight. (A Unit also won’t fight if it’s assigned to block something that doesn’t attack.)

Once both players have finished their secret assignments, combat commences. All the Units belonging to the player with Initiative attack first, in the order their commands were given, then all the other player’s Units attack. If an attacking Unit is blocked, those two Units deal damage to each other. If it isn’t blocked, it deals damage to the opposing player.

The deck builder allows you to edit or delete your decks, make copies of them, or create new ones from scratch. Decks are automatically saved when you leave the editor.

To be legal to play, a deck must contain:
  • exactly 60 cards total
  • no more than 4 copies of any one Power or Unit
  • any number of Resources

Great game, I've been watching Noxious' vids and I decided to download it. The current number of cards allows for a wealth of deckbuilding possibilities. The game has a ton of potential and is great fun as it stands. The 5 minute games are great when you dont have much time or when you need to test and refine a deck. I feel this game could also flourish on Mobile devices because of how quick the games are. I hope to see these Devs continue working and improving Nova Blitz and making the Real Time TCG an awesome reality. Good Luck to you guys :happy_creep:
