Placebo Effect is an exciting and unique adventure game that challenges you to fight enemies in a perilous microverse of mystifying science.

Experience an amazing voyage inside the human body. Explore stunning inner space environments by piloting an advanced nanotechnology medical device called the Shotbot. Defeat illness while solving puzzles and mastering great mechanics like flying, barrel rolls, exploring, and intense shooter action.

The gameplay is heavily inspired by classic video games of the past such as fast-paced flying action like StarFox, puzzle solving like Super Mario 64, item gathering and adventure elements like The Legend of Zelda and King's Quest, but all used in a new way.

Please note, all screen-shots and footage are currently from the game in alpha state and animations are pre-rendered scenes.

More on game mechanics:

Your mission: to control the Shotbot, an advanced nanotechnology medical device.

You will need to discover Tools during exploration of the game environment. These Tools are necessary to solve puzzles.

We are going to make this a game with great, fast-paced flying action like StarFox, item gathering and adventure elements like The Legend of Zelda and King's Quest, and puzzle solving like Super Mario 64.

We also plan to add some important health information related to the game scenario before each level, to inform the player and give context for the game. For example, you might be informed that "doctors have found a new compound in a certain plant that can fight infections and now you must seek out that molecule to use against the enemy".

We also want to add some fun physical dynamics to the gameplay. For example, as your heart rate increases during certain game sequences, the increased pulse will cause the blood flow to alter the piloting characteristics of your ship, adding to the challenge.

This game is a Star Fox inspired 3D shooter except not on rails because it is open world with exploration.

We will make achievements for all kinds of feats such as destroying a certain number of enemies, completing a level within a certain time limit, performing special moves both offensive and defensive, etc.

We also plan to add more enemies and more textures, weapons, and power-ups to vary the experience. We want the environments to be really organic and unique!

Thanks Insomniac OvrLrd, that is great advice and feedback. We agree the sounds aren't up to snuff, and are using those sounds right now as initial placeholders. We plan to greatly enhance them soon when our Kickstarter campaign succeeds! We will definitely consider your advice about control schemes, and we do actually have a control scheme based on a targeting reticule that we turned off for the videos. We will add them back in a future video!

another game with bad sfxr sound effects.

So you want to make a game like star fox?

In sf64 you didn't move the ship to aim, you aimed and that moved the ship.

Without that, its just awkwardly steering a model along a path. Looking at it, even with all the placeholder stuff, it looks a far cry gameplay wise from what you were looking to do.

Good luck.

Hi Kenny! We should have mentioned that these screenshots are actually from pre-alpha gameplay footage. We are going to enhance the models/textures a lot more once we get the gameplay mechanics completed. We plan on having a playable alpha-version demo of a single level within the next few weeks for anyone who wants to help us with play testing. Thanks

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. You are definitely correct about content, we plan to have a lot more up in the coming days. As for our inspiration, we don't so much mean graphic style, but gameplay elements. We have flying shooter action like StarFox, item collection and adventure elements like Legend of Zelda and King's Quest, puzzles like Super Mario 64, etc. Also regarding speed, we are currently testing and tweaking that. Also, you can control your speed and go a lot faster and slower as needed, use turbo-boost power-ups, and also upgrade your ship to get more powerful engines. We will be sure to add some faster paced action to the videos.

Not a bad idea, however it seems very... slow. One of the biggest appeals of games like Star Fox is the sense of speed, although I can see why having such a slow pace would be good for puzzles and such. Perhaps upping the tempo for some sections, and slowing it down for others?
