The Basics
In riegn of kings, there are two types of brick. The ones that can be broken by hand and the ones that are only vulnerable to seigeworks. Manually breakable blocks range from log and lower, log being the most durable of all the manually breakable blocks. Only seigable blocks range from cobble and above. (cobble being one of the most cheap.) I reccomend to use the only siegeable blocks as anyone (as long as they are patient enough) could break these blocks and easily get to your precious goodies. (Yes, even almost completely nude men with clubs.) I also reccomend to use cobble untill you have enough resources to afford better blocks. Cobble blocks can be made fairly easily. All you need to do is gather about 3 stone nodes and you have 15 cobblestone blocks right off the bat. (1 node = 5 blocks) Keep on upgrading your blocks as soon as you get enough resources to upgrade them.
Base Placement
Before you go ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ crazy and start buidling huge fortresses, consider the places where you could build one. A good base is always hidden, or in a rather strategical place like the island or a mountain or a secluded spot on the map. Never put your base around resources nodes or in them, as this is not just a ♥♥♥♥ move but rather a stupid mistake. It will attract alot of attention and you will likely get raided by a big group of full steels with trebs. Most resource areas tend to be in open fields, so placing your base in an open space makes it stand out like a sore thumb, attracting alot of attention and, in turn, raiders and griefers. Try building your bases around these resources, but not directly at them. Make it in a secluded, shady spot or a few minutes-walk away. NEVER make your base on the beach, as that is were all the fresh spawns will be, constantly bugging you and at the same time everyone comes there to kill freshies for bandages and other supplies. Try keeping away from all the hotspots on the map, like on the paths and around all the resources/spawn/plague village. Once you think you have found a nice place on the map to call your own, hunker down there and start building.
Base Designs
Almost every good base has its own unique, effective designs and spices. Here are some of mine!

1. The Hotel.

The Hotel Design is VERY expensive, but very effective. It consists of as many floors as you'd like, all made up of unseigable material. The interior materials could be made up of whatever you'd like. Every floor has its own metal door. These are unpickable and can only be opened by destroying them. The very top floor is the loot room and the second top floor is the bedroom. You could keep whatever youd like on lower floors. The roof is inaccessable due to how high it is. The base must be atleast four rooms tall, with the rooms being four blocks tall and however wide youd like them to be.

2. The Onion

Ogres have layers, and so does this base. There are NO doors in this base whatsoever, you just remove the blocks to get in. The Onion has many layers, or rather walls, each with a space between them. The futher you get into the base, the better the block should be. This design is VERY effective with siegeworks, especially the trebuchet because it can only puncture one hole in your base at a time, and depending on the amount of layers you have on your Onion, it wastes one treb-shot every time, so eventually they will take ages to break into your base or run out of ammo. It also works fairly well as a defence against ballistas. The center of your base should be the loot room/bedroom.
Tips N' Tricks
Tip 1. Double-Door your front door, or in other words add another door after your one, preferably iron.

Tip 2. Put your base in a nice area that is more secluded than anything.

Tip 3. Keep away from busier areas.

Tip 4. ALWAYS remeber to keep on upgrading your base.

Tip 5. Don't be afraid to experiment with different base techniques and designs

Tip 6. Remember to raid places near yours often. They can and will eventually raid you if you let them grow.

Tip 7. Try placing a few traps, or rather campfires in unsespecting places to lower the health of some raiders before you or your squad engages them.

Tip 8. Have Fun! (You knew i was going to say that)
