Wyrmsun has been released on Steam!
Wyrmsun to be released on May 22nd!
Release date: 2015

Wyrmsun is an open-source RTS / Grand Strategy game which features elements of mythology, history and fiction.

In the Wyrmsun universe a myriad of inhabited planets exist. Humans dwell on Earth, while dwarves inhabit Nidavellir and elves nourish the world of Alfheim. These peoples struggle to carve a place for themselves with their tools of stone, bronze and iron. And perhaps one day they will meet one another, beyond the stars...

The game features:
  • Retro-style graphics
  • 2 playable civilizations, and a number of non-playable ones
  • 18 quests to play, earning technology points which can be used to obtain new units, buildings and technologies
  • 38 units, 30 buildings and 14 technologies
  • Units that can earn experience, being able to upgrade to new unit types or acquire new abilities upon level-up
  • Persistent heroes, who carry over their level and abilities throughout scenarios
  • Personal names and traits for units
  • Cave, Conifer Forest, Dungeon, Fairlimbed Forest and Swamp tilesets
  • 33 maps of real and fictional locations to choose from, as well as random maps
  • Living environment, with fauna reproduction and predation
  • Very moddable game, with mod-loading capability built in
  • Grand strategy mode, where production is resolved on the strategic (world map) level, while battles are resolved on the tactical level
  • In-game encyclopedia, allowing players to learn more about the units, buildings and other elements of the game, as well as their historical and mythological sources of inspiration

The Stratagus engine (which the game uses), as well as all of the code, artwork, music and story elements included in Wyrmsun are distributed under the GPLv2 license. By supporting Wyrmsun you are also promoting the development of assets and code which can be used by other open-source games.

Wyrmsun's lore is based on history and mythology, and on the lore of other open-source fantasy games, such as Battle for Wesnoth.

After the game is released on Steam, it will continue to be developed, with additions planned such as:
  • New scenarios, such as a dwarven campaign about the settlement of Svarinshaug
  • Unit's sprites changing to represent equipment upgrades
  • Addition of new veteran and heroic unit types
  • New technologies
  • New abilities for your units to acquire when leveling up
  • Inventories for heroic units
  • Buildable walls
  • Roads which speed up unit movement
  • Religion system, in which a patron deity can be selected in polytheistic times, with the possibility of converting to a monotheistic religion later on
  • Priest units which can bestow different bonuses depending on civilization and religion
  • Docks and naval units
  • Silver and copper harvesting (transformed into gold when delivered)

ScareCrow: Unfortunately not at release (only English will be available), but we are already in talks with a Russian translator, to add a Russian translation in an update to the game.
