HBO’s “Game of Thrones” is a pretty dense show, so it’s OK if you get a little confused about the characters from time to time. With fans just a day away from the premiere of Season 5, many characters are scattered to the wind.

While some may want to binge-watch the entirety of Season 4, or catch up on the entire series, ahead of the Season 5 premiere, not everyone has 10 to 40 hours to spare. To help make sure everyone is not even one step behind on April 12, below is a breakdown of where we last left some very key characters that are bound to reappear at some point.

After losing his trial by combat in the most spectacular fashion, his brother and Lord Varys (Conleth Hill) hatched a scheme to set him free from King’s Landing and avoid the executioner’s blade. While making his escape, he takes a quick detour to brutally murder his former love Shae (Sibel Kekilli) and his father Tywin (Charles Dance). As a result of the murder, Varys had to accompany his friend on his escape boat, destined for parts unknown. However, odds are good he’s not sailing to another part of Westeros. Especially given that the trailer for Season 5 sets up a meeting between him and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke). If the show follows the books, the duo are headed to Pentos, the same city where Daenerys was hiding in Season 1 with her terrible brother.

Three of the names that loom the largest over Westeros all came together at the end of Season 4, but there was precious little interaction between them. After defending Castle Black from the Wildling army of Mance Rayder (Ciaran Hinds), the Night’s Watch were about to be crushed while their defenses were down. That is until Stannis Baratheon surprised everyone by marching his purchased army right through the Wildling camp and taking both them and Mance prisoner. With the threat subdued, Stannis will now either march his army south to try and take King’s Landing once again or he’ll stay at the Wall to defend against the White Walkers. Either way, Stannis has a great deal of power that Jon Snow can either use to his favor and promote a greater good.

Things aren’t going well for the young Targaryen queen. After learning that the two cities she’s conquered and freed slaves in have descended back into chaos, the Mother of Dragons decides to remain across the ocean and put her triumphant march back to King’s Landing on hold. She also discovered that Ser Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen) began his time in her service as a spy for Lord Varys. The season ended with her still trying to get the now freed city of Meereen on its feet. While trying to do that, it’s revealed that her dragons have gone completely out of control and taken to roasting children to eat them. This happened earlier in the season with a few goats and the queen was able to repay the owner, but replacing children is a bit trickier. When last we saw The Breaker of Chains, she was doing the unthinkable and chaining two of her three dragons up in a dungeon for safe keeping. Meanwhile, her third and most ferocious beast, Drogon, is still out in the world somewhere – Hence the awesome Season 5 poster.
