With the NCAA Final Four in our rearview mirrors, we now turn our attention to the wonder of Augusta National.

The Masters starts Thursday, but to whet the appetite, things kick off today with the Par 3 contest.

While the world's best ball strikers will be on hand, who works the bags for the par 3 event is what as grab headlines.

Tiger Woods' kids will caddie for their father, while New Direction's Niall Horan will be Rory McIlroy's bag.

Jack Nicklaus showed he could still get the crowd roaring as he recorded one of five holes in one during the annual par three tournament at Augusta held the day before the tournament starts.

The 75-year-old winner of a record six Masters titles holed his tee shot at the 115-metre fourth, one of four aces at the hole.

Another player to hole out there, Carmilo Villegas, went on hit another ace at the eighth. That was enough to put him into the playoff with a five-under par total of 22 for the nine holes, but the Colombian lost the decider to American Kevin Streelman.

No player who has won the par-three event has gone on to win the Masters, with many players actively disqualifying themselves to avoid becoming part of 'the curse'.

Australian No.1 Jason Day was disqualified on the first tee, where he allowed his son Dash to hit a shot. Dash Day wanted to hit another too, and when Dad denied him he copped a glancing blow to his thigh from the frustrated two-year-old with his mini driver.

It was an emotional day for Tiger Woods, who had his children Sam and Charlie share caddying duties. "We had an absolutely great time. These were memories for a lifetime," said Woods, who added on Twitter: "I'll always have memories of my pop at Augusta and now Sam & Charlie. An amazing day."

Any time he has been in contention to win the par three tournament he has 'mysteriously' hit his ball into the water due to the curse. And when he found himself in a playoff in 2004, he didn't show up.
