Unturned Map Editor - Zombie Loot Table Options
By Drew
This guide is aimed for level designers and map editor folk, though can be used to gain a better understanding of how the current Unturned build presents the toolset to allow specific item drops from slaying zombies that the designer creates by using the Item Loot Table Option integer. This guide represents Unturned – Preview update 3.8.9.5, future and past updates may change the results of following this guide.

Preface
After much confusion I've finally figured out just how exactly to appropriately set zombie loot drops and here is my guide that I've made in lieu of my findings. I've included images because they're awesome and since I am a visual person, they allow me to illustrate what I have to explain.

Just like my other guide, I must disclaim any data loss, if perhaps I say, "backup your files",you should do this for your own protection, not because I may have faulty advice. So here it is: I disclaim any responsibility over any data loss that you incur through the use of this guide; therefore use this guide at your own risk. If you disagree, stop reading now.
Step 1: Back it up – NOW!
Just like in my FUEL guide, I strongly recommend you backup your current map files. Before we continue you should create a folder on your desktop and name it “Backups”.So start by opening your map file directory (i.e.: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Unturned\Maps), select, copy and paste your map folder into your new Backups folder. Rename your map to something unique and append a number to indicate the backup version. I will illustrate this process by images.

Step 1a: Create backup folder

Right-click your desktop screen, hover over “New” and on the sub-menu left-click “Folder”.

Step 1b: Rename backup folder

Right-click your new folder, select "Rename" and type “Backups” and press enter to save it.

Step 1c: Open Unturned map directory

Browse to your Unturned map folder directory, however you choose to do that.

Step 1d: Select map folder

Left-click your map folder and press Control + C, which copies this folder.

Step 1e: Paste map in Backups folder

Left-click inside the Backups folder you created and press Control + V, which pastes your map folder in your Backups folder.

Step 1f: Rename backup map

Right-click your pasted map folder and on the context menu select “Rename”.

Step 1g: Append map version

Append the version number, I start off with “_001”.
Step 2: Start Unturned Map Editor
Step 2: Start Unturned map editor

I should not have to explain too much how to do this so I will just give you an illustration.

Step 2a Start Unturned map editor

Open Unturned map editor with your map, or create a new map for testing.

To run a basic test map you need at least the following:
  • Navigation mesh (for zombies)
  • Player spawn
  • Dressed zombie spawn
Step 3: Create Loot Item Table
Step 3: Create item loot table

This is where you'll build your preferences as to what naming conventions you deem appropriate. So take my conventions like the letter “x” is to algebra. You don't need permission to use my way of naming tables and tiers. First you'll create a table and take note of the loot table number (VERY IMPORTANT) which in my case is “21”, then select that table and create tiers. I name tiers depending on the type of loot and the character it comes from so for instance, CIV.SANTA would have a Santa Hat (item 278), Santa Top (item 279) and Santa Bottom (item 280).

I use community-made item ID lists which you have to assume are incomplete though here's General Flak james's ID list: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=385659578

Another Item ID list I've found is CuSO4_00's: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=395194511

After you create your tiers you adjust the chances of each particular tier to spawn, if you have more than one tier, the sliders will compensate when you adjust one. Since we're creating this table for zombie loot table options, for the chances that you adjust, will determine just what loot the zombie is more likely to drop.

This is also important, for instance you want the Santa Hat (item 278) to be more likely than the Santa Top (item 279) or the Santa Bottom (item 280), you adjust the slider to a higher percentage than the other two. Note: The amount of drops depend on whether the zombie you setup is a mega or not, megas drop five items and regular zombies drop one item. So if you have one item in your loot table, and you set this loot table up for a mega, that one item will spawn five times.

For good measure, press Escape and save your game. (This will not overwrite your backup).

Step 3a: Create loot item table

Select “Spawn” and click “Items”, create your loot item table.

Step 3b: Take note of loot table number (very important)

Imporant: Take note of this loot item table number.

Step 3c: Create table tiers

In your loot item table, create the tiers that you add your item IDs to.

Step 3d: Adjust tier chances

Adjust the chances that each item will spawn using the sliders under each tier label.

Step 3e: Save map

Save your map to ensure your progress won't be lost (this does not overwrite your backup).
Step 4: Create Zombie Character Spawn
Step 4: Create zombie character spawn

Moving on to step 4, create a zombie character spawn table and you must dress your zombies with Top/Shirt and Bottom/Pants AND create a navigation mesh for your zombies to even spawn after you've placed spawn nodes in your map.

For now we're going to focus on filling the requirements of a new zombie character spawn. I've created for simplicity; SANTA. In this zombie character spawn I will dress it with a Santa Hat (278), Santa Top (279) and Santa Bottom (280). The hat isn't necessary for any zombie character to actually spawn, though.

Now we'll modify this character to meet my desire; set zombie character properties. Scroll up, after you've dressed your zombie with the clothing items you've assigned. The next set of numbers is wholly dependent on your scenario, copy my numbers for testing if you want. To start, you'll read Health: x, Damage: x and Loot: x. I set Health to 20, Damage to 1 and Loot to 21.

Now here is pretty much the climax of this guide; let's recall what note we took during the first paragraph of Step 3: Create item loot table. Whichever number is your item loot table number, this is the number you will insert into your zombie character loot integer?. My item loot table number was 21. Which if you recall has an equal chance of producing a Santa Hat (278), Santa Top (279) and Santa Bottom (280). This is what should drop after you slay this particular zombie, keeping in mind the fact that regular zombies have a chance of dropping one item and mega zombies have a chance of dropping five items.

Here's the best explanation I have: Since megas drop five items and regular zombies drop one item and you set your loot integer to a item loot table that has three items that have equal opportunity to be dropped, each one in five drops from a mega have an equal chance of dropping one of the items from your specified loot table. For regular zombies though, each item has a equal opportunity to drop once, as regular zombies only drop one item.

Lastly, we'll place our new zombie spawn and test our predictions.

Step 4a: Create zombie character

Select “Spawn” and click “Zombies” and create your zombie character.

Step 4b: Dress zombie character

Input at least a Top/Shirt and Bottom/Pants to dress your zombie (if you don't, your zombie character won't spawn).

Step 4c: Set zombie properties

Set your properties accordingly, or to your own values.

Step 4d: Recall loot table number

Recall that loot table number you took note of prior to this step, insert that specific item loot table number as the zombie loot drop option.

Step 4e: Set zombie spawn nodes

Be sure your new zombie character is selected and place corresponding zombie character spawn nodes in your map.

Step 4f: Save map

Save your map to ensure your progress is saved.
Step 5: Zombie Test
Step 5: Zombie Test

In this last step I will simply illustrate my testing, now I realized that regular zombies may not always drop the items you give them a chance to drop. So be aware of this subtly.

Step 5a: Regular zombie test

Start your map and test your predictions.

Step 5b: Mega zombie test

I created a mega zombie to test item loot drop amount (five).
Conclusion
It's now up to you to decide how to apply this information.

Well, I would love to spend time to figure this out for the community! If there is any documentation on this new system, I will find it this Monday and paste a link to a new guide as soon as Friday (3 March 2017).

Up until now, I could make the map itself quite nicely but I had no idea how to do the zombie spawns.

@Nexus, it reads like you are asking if you can assign a table specific for each piece of clothing. To my knowledge, you cannot do this. When you create a table, you simply assign that table's number to the Loot option for the zombies you want dropping that loot.
