Live on Steam Early Access!!! - Week In Review (10/23/2015)
Week In Review (9/18/2015)
  • Our first pass at Rama (a map designed for Hot Rock!) is in and playtested. Well, as it turns out it was a bit too large, so we're reducing it.
  • Capture the core development is ongoing. We should have this gamemode completed by the end of next week.
  • Our friends at CGBot delivered Mobius and it looks great! This map can be used with a few different gamemodes.
  • Although the Predator has been modeled for a while now, we haven't had the chance to get it in the game. That process has begun and the Predator will be ready some time early next week.
  • Lots of progress with matchmaking (basics) and the installer/patcher. In fact, all of us on the project are using the installer/patcher exclusively -- YEAH NO MORE DOWNLOADING THE WHOLE GAME!
  • With respect to matchmaking, although the basics to the backend are there, we still need to implement the UI/frontend. That starts next week.
  • Speaking of backend work... the network movement code for ships is in and working beautifully. Over the next few days, we should see weapon prediction in place as well.
  • We also have a new power-up manager in place now. So power-up proliferation has been halted and the world is safe for producers again.
  • Last weeks power-up art is in. The old art was great, but what's been done now helps you know what the power-up is from a good distance.
  • Tycho (formerly know as Ringsanity) is moving along. This map is crazy and built for large numbers of players. No doubt this will be fun.
  • Lots more, but I have to save some for other bloggers :(

Descent was an amazing game with a great community. 26.4k modem anyone? Lan parties? Roxfest? This new incarnation Honors descent well. Thanks for hard work!

Thrustmaster has been dusted off. Cannot wait to frag old and new friends in 6 degrees of freedom again.

Alright, I've been watching this for months since I first learned about it. As an original Descent player who loved it then and now, I'm hyped for this. It feels like a dream of the original D1 and D2 (D3 was a disappointment in my opinion, no offense to any who loved it, just liked the others better) being remastered into modern graphics. These games were amazing then and they still are today thanks to Steam. If you ask me, it's about time this game got a remake. My only fear is that my PC won't be able to handle its graphics but other than that, I CAN'T WAIT! Bring back the most annoying bots, most devious traps, and (just for the fun of it) a full map of Bandits for us to play on! :D

Our forums are complimentary, you don't need to pay a subscription to participate.

We have an extra membership-driven section called "The Underground", but that is just for people who want to see even more behind the scenes than the huge amount of stuff we share publically. For instance, Undergrounders occasionally get to watch livestreamed design meetings.

Is it okay if I choose not to pay for a subscription for the backer forums? I already gave you my money! I don't want to shell out even more just to access the forums or beta test this thing! I really hope you'll give us a free single player campaign and multiplayer modes like the others before this, instead of turning it into a MMO, because that was not what I asked for when funding this project!
