Introduction
Welcome to another Enhancement Pack from the Mulderland project.

If you're not familiar with Mulderland, my goal is to preserve and enhance PC games by fixing technical issues, improving compatibility with modern systems, and adding carefully selected quality-of-life features while staying faithful to the original experience. While the project originally focused on classic games, I also create Enhancement Packs for recent releases whenever I feel they can benefit from them.

Think of each Enhancement Pack as a carefully curated collection of community mods, official content, patches, tweaks, and fixes, bundled into a single installer. Everything is preconfigured to work together, so you don't have to spend hours searching for compatibility patches or manually installing dozens of files.

Released in 2003, Max Payne 2 remains one of Remedy's finest games, and one of my favorite games of all time. But like many PC classics, it shows its age on modern hardware. This Enhancement Pack brings together the best fixes and improvements available while preserving the original gameplay and atmosphere.

Included Enhancements
  • (Bug Fix) Startup Hang Patch
  • (Bug Fix) 60 FPS Cap
  • (Bug Fix) Single Core CPU Affinity
  • (Sound Fix) Restore EAX Support (DSOAL)
  • (Sound Fix) IndirectSound (alternative fix for unsupported systems)
  • (Sound Fix) Audio Mix Tweak
  • (Graphical Improvement) DXWrapper for better anti-aliasing (and ASI loading)
  • (Graphical Improvement) ThirteenAG's Widescreen Fix
  • (Graphical Improvement) Xbox Rain Droplet Effects
  • (Mod) Weapon Accuracy Patch
  • (Other) Dead Man Walking Bonus Chapters
  • (Other) Ultimate Language Pack (freely combine any supported text language with any voice language, regardless of your original game version)
  • (Other) MulderConfig, a user-friendly interface to enable, disable and configure all these features with a single click

Install the Enhancement Pack
1) Get the latest version of the installer

If you're curious, you can also see the installer's source code by clicking on "View on GitHub", or "View Details" to see the complete list of included mods and their authors.

2) Launch the installer
  • Double click on max-payne-2-the-fall-of-max-payne-enhancement-pack.exe

3) Follow the installation wizard

Screen 1: Welcome screen

Screen 2: Click, then browse to your game installation folder, and select maxpayne2.exe

Screen 3: Components selection

All components are optional, but the default selection is probably what most players will want.
If you'd like to change the game's text and/or voice language, make sure to also select the Language Pack.

Click Install, wait a few moments, and you're done!
Using MulderConfig
At the end of the installation, you'll be prompted to launch MulderConfig.

You can also launch it later at any time. It is located in your game installation folder:
MulderConfig.exe

When you open it, you'll see this:

Simply choose your preferred settings, then click Save (to store your configuration in MulderConfig) and Apply (to apply your changes to the game).

Close MulderConfig and relaunch the game. That's all there is to it!

Known issues
1) Geometry artifacts near the edge of the screen (Ultrawide)

You may occasionally notice objects or parts of the environment disappearing or behaving strangely near the edges of the screen when playing in 21:9 or 32:9.

See this example (look at the door on the left, at 12:21): https://youtu.be/tUGDfmD7pL4?si=LP-5pTVHDcZZGNl5&t=740
(This video isn't using my Enhancement Pack, but the issue affects every known ultrawide setup for Max Payne 2.)

This is caused by a limitation of the original game engine. Objects outside the original field of view are sometimes considered invisible and are culled as an optimization, which results in these visual artifacts on wider aspect ratios.

Unfortunately, there is currently no known fix for this issue.

For this reason, I don't recommend playing in 32:9. If you're playing in 21:9, I also recommend avoiding very high FOV values. The default FOV should rarely expose the issue, and if it still bothers you, you can slightly reduce the FOV using MulderConfig.
Final Words
First of all, this Enhancement Pack wouldn't exist without the talented developers and modders whose work it builds upon.

A huge thank you to:
  • ThirteenAG, for the Widescreen Fix and the Xbox Rain Droplets effect.
  • elishacloud for DxWrapper
  • kcat for DSOAL
  • the unknown author behind the Startup Hang patch
  • "somethingelse" for the Audio Tweaks Remix
  • "onehundredpercentass" for the Weapon AccuracyPatch
  • The authors of IndirectSound.

If you've tried the Enhancement Pack, I'd love to hear your feedback in the comments. Whether everything worked perfectly or you encountered an issue, your feedback helps improve future releases. I regularly update my Enhancement Packs with bug fixes, improvements, and new features, so suggestions and bug reports are always appreciated.

Finally, if you enjoyed this Enhancement Pack, consider giving this guide a 👍. It really helps improve its visibility and lets more players discover the project.

@Needles Kane: why? do you have an error? the GPU detected in the launcher is the good one?

Installed everything. But can not run it on 3440x1440

@dot Have you installed everything (except the language pack that doesn't matter). Normally, with dxWrapper and my settings, the discrete GPU should be detected. If you have Afterburner overlay, do you see if the game is running in DX8 or DX9 ?

It worked for my game. just a question, in the game's startup settings I am unable to see my discrete gpu, it only shows the integrated one, any idea what could be this and how can i fix it?

@Luke89_ you are very confident for someone with zero proof.

did u even look at the source code, or are you just blindly trusting Windows Defender’s ML? You can literally compile the installer yourself.

@arian: thx! I don't recommend that as it can introduce bugs, but if you want to try, edit the dxwrapper.ini file, search the line LimitPerFrameFPS and set 0 instead of 60
