Big Update
Project Update

Good news! A very generous supporter came forward and offered all the funds required to purchase the game engine and assorted other modules. Also, an equally generous supporter has offered to host the first Alpha server for us without any charge. What this means is we don't need the Kickstarter to complete the game to a Beta Level!

Therefore we have decided to pull our Kickstarter campaign and give all backers free Alpha and Beta access to the game.

If you did not get a chance to back us, we will be allowing people to sign-up for Alpha and Beta access on our website at a later date. Please follow us on Twitter (@Stellar_VR) or Facebook to be notified when this goes live.

Game Update

VR Headsets

The coming week is a big week for VR with technology being announced from Valve, Nvidia, Oculus and more. We have already started looking at widening compatibility and we hope to build-in support for the newly announced Steam VR headset as well as other PC headsets. We will post more information once we get our hands on the new Developer kits.

Game Engine

We are currently porting the game from the Unity 4 game engine to Unity 5 (Brand new, still in beta right now). This allows us to create more realistic lighting, reflections and materials on all the objects in the game as well as improve performance in certain areas.

Special Effects
We have sourced some great weapon and shield effects. We hope to bring these into the game, as soon and the game has finished being ported to unity 5.

Sector Design
For the beta we will create 3 sectors for people to fight over. We have now finalised what they will be and how they will look. The team are hard at work creating some awesome models, here is a sneak peek at what they are working on (any images are artists preliminary renders with little detail and no texture work yet):

• Solar Array Sector - This will contain the space station from the demo with a large solar array as a resource close by. The general feel for this level will be very clean and open and we hope to have some awesome special effects around the solar array. The perk from owning this sector will be a minor increase in shield strength.

• Industrial Facility - A huge dark industrial space station will hold control of this sector with a large manufacturing resource facility nearby. Expect a lot of debris and huge floating shipwrecks in this level to fly around. The perk from this sector will be a minor increase in hull strength.

• Mining Facility - This sector will feature a huge menacing space station with very large internal hangar. Close by there will be a large asteroid mining facility. Expect a lot of asteroid fields in this sector, watch out for ambushes.

Ship Models

We can now show you the initial renders of a 3 seat Eridan fighter model and the initial work on an industrial transport ship. They still need some work, but so-far we feel its looking great! In the Eridan fighter, the pilot will sit up in the top section with two turret gunners below him.

Release date: Mid / Late 2015
Designed for the Oculus Rift, battle for control of huge space stations and resources in this on-line co-op space shooter.

We are creating an on-line Virtual Reality game that is immersive, quick to play, great fun and provides lots of Co-Op action. Fly around awesome space scenes at huge scales, attacking space stations, battleships and dogfighting with the enemy. Join your friend in the cockpit, give a knowing nod to them with fully networked head tracking when its time to unleash hell. Be the pilot and control the main ships weapons or take the co-pilot seat and man the turret (or fly solo with a little more room to spread out in). Eridanus wars is designed to be quick, fun and have almost instant action. This is a seat-of-the-pants combat simulator where you get to blast away until you have worn down your trigger finger!

The Human Federation has run low on resources for its ever expanding empire and needs to urgently expand into new territory or face dwindling resources, famine and death. Their only hope is to expand into the Eridanus star system and capture the resources within, but the native Eridans wont give them up without a fight.

Players pick a side (Eridan or Federation) and fight for control of each of the sectors in the Eridan star cluster. Each sector has a resource facility (factory, mine, harvesting station, etc) and a space station run by the occupying race that collects the resources through transport ships. Each sector occupied awards the race with a small perk and also an income from the resource. Once the races income reaches a certain level their military launch a huge battleship (bristling with turrets and hangars) into one of the star systems and either defend (if an occupied system) or attack an enemy system. Players battle to take control of sectors (by capturing the space station), disrupt enemy supply lines or defend their own territory. Players are awarded credits for assisting their race, which can be used for upgrades, missiles or even larger ships (with more seats for more players).

Each race will Initially have 2 ships each to choose from, a 2 seater and a 3 seater. You can either take the pilots seat and pilot your own ship, or take one of the turret gunner seats and join a friend in the cockpit. Want to fly solo? No problem, enjoy the extra legroom and a small weight bonus. After beta release we then hope to bring out many more, larger ship options (4 and 6 seats) and other crew positions (E.G. Drone Pilot, Engineer and Commander).

  • 100% designed and built from the ground up for the Oculus Rift.
  • Choose to fight as Eridan or Federation. Pilot your own ship, or join another ship on-line as a co-pilot/turret gunner.
  • Dog fight with up to 60 players in each sector (exact limits to be determined during testing).
  • 3 sectors to fight over, each with their own space station, resource facility and local environment.
  • Each race will have a 2 seater and a 3 seater ship which is unlocked in-game using credits awarded from assisting your race.
  • A basic galactic economy that you can impact! Cut-off funds from the enemy by interrupting their resource deliveries (shooting down transports) or assist your own by escorting or even doing your own resource runs.
  • Team up with friends to take on a space station and capture the sector!
  • Not pay-to-win. There may be purchasable options with real money in the future, but they will be purely cosmetic.
  • DLC free, on-line only. The Beta will use a perpetual on-line account for each player. The client itself is DLC free.

As this is our first title, we have released an offline alpha concept demo to give you a feel for the flight dynamics and levels of immersion you can expect. The link to this can be found on our Kickstarter page (link on the right).

Pan as a DK2 owner its fair to say I strongly disagree. It is not for everyone and also not a good fit for all games but in the right game, done properly its a game changer. This game looks fabulous.

Oculust Rift and VR is soooo overrated. I hope this trend will die out soon so we dont have to vote garbage like those. :pooangry:

We have been designing Eridanus Wars specifically to reduce sim-sickness. At the moment even sensitive players are playing it with little issue.

Yes, this is so worth getting motion sick for.
