Better Crafting

Description
Better Crafting completely overhauls Wayward's crafting system. It replaces the default prompt with a precision dialog designed to save you clicks, protect your valuable items, and make massive crafting batches safer and easier to control.

How to Use
Getting started is completely seamless. Just open your normal Wayward crafting menu and click on any item you want to craft. The Better Crafting UI will automatically pop up.

(The hotkey behavior depends on your settings: it can either bypass Better Crafting or access Better Crafting. By default, holding Shift bypasses the mod and uses vanilla crafting.)

Quality of Life & Time Savers
  • Exact Material Selection: Normal crafting lets you choose exactly which components get used instead of accepting whatever vanilla picks for you.
  • Smart Auto-Fill: When the window opens, the mod automatically pre-selects the best available ingredients for you, prioritizing your highest quality items first. You are always free to change the selected materials, or you can just hit "Craft" to finish in a single click.
  • Filtering & Smart Sorting: Filter long ingredient lists by name and sort each section by Best for Crafting, quality, name, weight, durability, decay, worth, and more. Crafting, bulk crafting, and dismantling all default to Best for Crafting so the most useful options appear first.
  • Exclusion-Based Bulk Crafting & Dismantling: Instead of clicking 50 items to include them in a batch, simply click the few materials you want to exclude. The mod will automatically cycle through everything else to craft/dismantle as many as possible.

Major Features
  • Normal Crafting Control: Select your components exactly for single crafts, including tools, consumed materials, and base items where applicable.
  • Bulk Crafting: Queue up larger crafting runs with quantity controls, per-slot exclusions, and tool selection.
  • Precise and Bulk Dismantling Support: Use the same Better Crafting workflow when dismantling items, including target selection and required-item handling.

Survival & Safety Guards
  • Health Protection: Bulk crafting can stop as soon as your health drops, helping prevent dangerous unattended loops.
  • Emergency Interrupts: Bulk crafting happens turn-by-turn so enemies can still approach. To keep you alive, your bulk crafting batch will instantly abort if:
    • You take any damage or lose HP from any source.
    • You move your character.
    • You close the menu (Esc) or click Stop.
  • Protected Item Handling: Items marked as "Protected" in your inventory are automatically locked out of bulk batches to keep them safe, but you can still use them manually in the single crafting interface.
  • Durability Protections: Bulk crafting and dismantling have toggles to fully use a tool to breaking or stop one use before it breaks.
  • Safe Crafting by Default: Toggle unsafe crafting when you want to skip stamina limits and damage-based safety stops during bulk crafting/dismantling.

Deep Information at a Glance
  • Hotkey Inspect: Hold your configured hotkey while hovering over an ingredient to see its exact durability, weight, groupings, and action tier levels.
  • Pre-Craft Info Card: See the difficulty, required skill, and base stats of the item you are about to make before you actually commit the resources.
  • Dismantle Info: See what items you will get for a dismantle.
  • Availability Counts: Recipe sections show how many valid items are currently available, making it easier to plan around your real inventory.

Configurable Settings
Customize your experience via the Wayward mod settings menu:
  • Activation Mode: Choose whether holding the configured hotkey bypasses Better Crafting (default) or accesses Better Crafting.
  • Custom Hotkey: Set the activation key to Shift, Control, or Alt.
  • Close Better Crafting UI shortcut: Default key is "c". Set the key to whatever you want in the mod settings.

Important Notes
  • Multiplayer is supported. But it has to be on both server and client

I used AI tools to help rebuild this mod because I wanted a better crafting experience, the old setup was lacking, and I wanted to get this out to the community. It was built from the ground up as a full-fledged rewrite to give you the ultimate crafting experience.

**Update 1.7.6**

- Added filtering and sorting controls to craft, bulk craft, and dismantle item lists.
- Default list sorting now uses **Best for Crafting**.
- Fixed sorting changing item selections/exclusions unexpectedly.
- Fixed quality sorting behavior.
- Fixed dismantling logs and other overlap cases where required/tool items could all show as `Target`.
- Improved item reservation between consumed, used, tool, required, target, and excluded rows.
- Fixed bulk overlap selection issues.
- Fixed normal craft split-selection defaults.
- Fixed explicit tool selections being ignored during auto-selection.
- Reset crafting window state properly when closing the panel.

Better Crafting Update

Reusable required items now lose durability correctly, like tools.
Durability behavior is now consistent across crafting, bulk crafting, and dismantling.
Protect now cleanly preserves one use; with it off, items can be used on their final valid use and then break.
Remaining uses now displays correctly for non-consumed used and tool items across all three modes, and no longer shows 0.
Bulk crafting no longer incorrectly preserves pinned reusable items when Protect is off.
Dismantling now follows the same intended durability and safety rules as the other modes.
Unsafe was replaced with Safe, enabled by default.
Added a configurable UI close hotkey, defaulting to C.
Selected items now move to the top of their list and stay there after refreshes.
Multiplayer paths were updated to respect the same durability fixes.

What's the key to exit the screen? It's a bit irritating to have to navigate to the tiny X whenever I use the interface.

Fixed bulk, added dismantling, cleaned up a ton of bugs and applied over 92 fixes and adjustments.
