Valve Core: long jump module

If you've not reached the chapter Valve Core or hear of the long jump module appear within gameplay yet, then I recommend that you wait on that. However if you just recieved the long jump module, and do not care to bother someone else on this then I would recommend taking a look at this for your sanity sake.

You don't receive the long jump module until the near end of the Valve Core, which is necesarry for finishing that chapter and going off into the next chapter. Trying to use the module started to drive me insane since I was foolish enough to walk right up onto the platform without any other way of back tracking. So, I went through failure after failure trying to find a guide to help and even to the point of phoning a friend who forgotten what the long jump module was by the time I asked. So I google and found that it wasn't some specailly assigned button to jump. On the plus side of me going insane, I found that pressing "t" at any wall allowed me to leave my mark, and pressing "y" followed by a mess of bashed keys topped with "enter" allowed me to tell the guy to hurry. So I hope it's not too late for my reader's sanity.

If you reached that point than you probably caught onto how you could hob and climb over objects with a clever combination of pressing "w", the spacebar and "ctrl". Turned out that the device works something like how you would hoist yourself into a cramp space, or slight out-of-reach distance.

The trick is this combination:

move forward, crouch then jump.


if you're using the default setting then it would look more like:

"w", "ctrl", spacebar

I hope this help those who find themselve in this situation, because there's no way of finishing that chapter without knowing how to use the long jump module. Believe me, I tried.
Unless you manage a "no clips" cheat.

i thank you for responding but... i have gotten past the long jump part by using a weapon to launch me from island to island and ( after about 7 tries ) i finally made it!

@glthomson, I'm sorry to hear that. If you don't mind could you please give me more details as to what you're using while playing this game so that I could look for into it, and hopefully make necessary modifications so that the guide might be of more help.
