Railway mail car Post 2-a/14

A very typical representative of the post-war period, i.e. the so-called Epochs 3 and 4, was the Post 2-a/14 railway mail car. A total of 102 units were built from 1954 onwards. The interior was divided into a parcel compartment and a letter compartment. The suspension was provided by coil and leaf springs, which significantly improved running smoothness compared to pure leaf spring frames. The cars could be heated via a steam heating pipe or via the electrical plug connection. The cars were equipped with a stove for downtime. The cars could be found in passenger, express, and special mail trains, on main lines as well as on branch lines. The cars had a length over buffers of 15,260 mm and were approved for speeds of up to 100 km/h. They remained in service until 1985, when the last examples were taken out of service.
