Create palettes easily using PalMod. No image editing needed, just pick RGB values from organized palettes.

Setting up files

To start, you'll want to download both the latest version of PalMod (zip or exe are both fine) and the setup script+asset files (v6.1) .

PalMod: https://zachd.com/palmod/releases/
Script: https://files.gamebanana.com/bitpit/mci_palmod_script_assets_v61.zip

Then, head to the games root folder by selecting the settings icon, Manage, Browse local files.

Put the Palette Editing folder into the root folder, like this. You can also put the PalMod program in this folder if you'd like.

Inside will be the script.bat file, running this will setup the files to work with PalMod.
You may get a warning for this file, but you can read the entire thing in notepad if you want to see exactly what it does.
The highlighted green files are all from PalMod.
This will automatically back up the relevant files (as .zxnb_ORIGINAL files).
If you have any issues with the script, follow the on screen instructions. If those don't help, reach out to me in the #help chat of the Discord and I'll see what I can do.

Once you've run it you can then run PalMod.exe. With the program open, select File::Load Directory::MARVEL Cosmic Invasion (Steam) and select the MARVEL Cosmic Invasion folder.
And you've just loaded the palettes! yay!
Editing
(ignore that this is using the demo build, everything here is the same in the full release I just don't want to rerecord gifs)
Now we can start to actually change palettes.
The first list lets you change character, the second does nothing, and the third lets you select the palette.
From here you can click on the "tiles" and change their RGB or HSL values, or click and drag to select multiple at a time to edit.
If you don't see something on the preview it's likely because it's RGB, which means it's not effected by the player palette. Sorry, can't change most of Rockets weapons.
If you want to revert to a base game palette after saving, you can load one of the images found in PalMod\Palettes\Default Palettes

Important!! You'll have to restart the game after saving changes in PalMod for your edits to show up.
Make sure to select File::Patch Changes to save.
Sharing and Loading
If you want to share your palette, you can save as images or palette files. Indexed .PNGs and .ACT files are the most common for PalMod. To save an image, go to File::Export Image, then select your palette slot/amount and zoom level, then File::Save and give it a name.

To save as a palette file, just select Tools::Save Palette and give it a name.

If you want to save as just a single sprite, make sure you select the unused palette before opening the image export window.

Loading palettes is also very easy. Either drag and drop the file (.PNG/.ACT) into the palette window (not the preview window) or select Tools::Load Palette and your file.

That's pretty much it. I'd suggest saving as both a .PNG and a .ACT of your palette if you're going to share your palettes, as some websites will strip the .PNG of its data, meaning you'll have to share the .ACT.

Do note that some characters might receive updates to their palette order, and some sprites might be buggy and need to be patched later, so if you have a request or see issues let me know in the MCI Modding discord server[discord.gg].
