Prerequisites

Sounds
To edit sounds, it is necessary to use an external audio editor (DAW) such as Pro Tools[www.avid.com], Cubase[www.steinberg.net], Reaper[www.reaper.fm] or Audacity[www.audacityteam.org].

FMOD
For modding audio, it is necessary to have FMod Studio installed. In this case the use is free of charge.
  1. Visit FMOD[www.fmod.com] website
  2. Create your own account
  3. Download and install the latest version of Fmod Studio - FMOD Download[www.fmod.com]

VRage3
Please ensure you have followed the section on “Tool Setup and Mod Creation” in the VRAGE3 Modding Overview guide prior to starting this guide.
Creating the FMOD Project in VRAGE3 Editor
  1. In VRAGE3 Editor, right click the blank space in Assets and hit Create Asset > FMOD Project

  2. Enter your FMOD Project name
  3. Double click the newly created icon to launch FMOD

Creating the Event in FMOD Studio
Creating the Event
  1. Under the Events tab, right click the blank space and select Event Defaults > 3D Timeline, and name it

  2. Right click the new Event and select Assign to Bank > Browse > your bank name

Adding and setting the sound
  1. Drag’n’drop your sound into the event’s audio track and move it to the very beginning

  2. On the Logic Tracks black line, select Add Loop Region

  3. Move the region borders to match the sound start and end
Note: the sound should be loopable

  4. In the Master Track options, it is possible to set the Max Distance of the sound. We recommend something between 5-20m for block idles.

Setting the Mixer Routing
  1. Open the Mixer window by clicking Window > Mixer or hitting ctrl+2
  2. Under the Routing tab, drop your event under the appropriate category group

Note: The Mixing Desk can be accessed from the Mixer window. Moving the sliders influence the whole game audio balance.

Saving the project
  1. Select Scripts > VRage > Save project to VRage Editor

  2. Click File > Save or ctrl+s
  3. Close FMOD
Editing the block definition in VRAGE Editor
Creating Partial Override
  1. In Project Explorer tab - Vanilla.vrgproj, click on Assets\Blocks\Thrusters\Ion\750 folder
  2. Right click the IonThruster750_BlockEffectsComponentDefinition icon and select Create Partial (Override). Click Select folder and Confirm then.

  3. Click on the newly created icon, and in the Inspector window, scroll down to the Audio section.

  4. In the On Activation Audio line, click the bulb icon and select your event name.

Test your new mod
In the VRAGE3 Mod HUB, hit the Start Game button.
Note: changing the thruster sound does not influence the whole Ship sound, but only the specific block idle.
