Comparison Mafia Original vs Mafia Remake [Side by Side]
By ⚔ Kassandra ⚔ and 1 collaborators
I've created this guide to show the world how the gameplay and scenes are side by side ..some missions being shorter in OG game some being shorter in remake and vice versa. I know there are other short videos doing this but i wanted do the full versions as i couldn't really find anything as this.

On this guide i will post them as youtube videos created as chapters...you will be able to see side by side every detail that was cut from each game ..you will be able to see some details that weren't in OG and some details that were in the OG but not in the remake.

And you will also read about some changes that even in videos are hard to spot.

Hope you enjoy !!

Comparison - An Offer You Can’t Refuse [Side by Side]

Prologue:
Where Tommy originally takes the elevated train to meet Detective Norman, these roles have now become reversed.

An Offer You Can't Refuse
There is now an additional roadblock on the Giuliani Bridge set by Morello's gangsters.
There is also a new mission fail scene where Paulie will shoot the player in the head if they refuse to complete the mission in time.

For more difference check the video.
Comparison - Running Man [Side by Side]

Running Man
The number of passengers the player needs to fare has been shortened from five to three.(and this is a huge upgrade as it was pretty boring in original game)
There are now more expansive conversations between Tommy and his passengers, one of which recommends Tommy to grab a coffee at his friend's café which sets up the second scene of the mission.
Originally, Dino (who's name is now revealed) and Lou were killed upon entering Salieri's Bar, whereas now they are simply chased away by Paulie and Sam outside the bar.

Comparison - Molotov Party [Side by Side]

Molotov Party
Paulie now assists Tommy in destroying assets at Morello's Lounge Bar, including stealing Lou's vehicle and driving home together, rather than separately.
In the original, Tommy is wearing his gangster suit, but in the remake, he wears his taxi outfit.

Comparison - Ordinary Routine [Side by Side]

Ordinary Routine:
The building in Central Island has now been changed to Bertorelli's Bakery, and the Pompeii Bar is now an unnamed store in Chinatown.
The player now enters the first location on the trip.
Where the man who beat Sam attempted to kill Tommy, he now makes less of an attempt, hitting Tommy with a briefcase during the escape.
In the original, the thief wore a brown suit, whilst in the remake, the thief is the guy who beat Sam up.
The thief's getaway car was originally the Lassiter V16 Phaeton, now it is the Smith V12.
In the original, the thief simply drove around the countryside. In the remake, the thief is escaping to Morello's Lounge Bar, and the mission will fail if he makes it there.

Intermezzo One
Some context present in the original version of the game between Tommy and Norman has now been removed. Originally, Tommy is presented as a sociopath when prompted by Norman to answer his morals in killing people. Tommy explains that he killed because the other side was trying to trying to outsmart the family. This has all been removed in the remake.
Morello originally gets rear ended by the victim, now Morello rear ends the victim and blames him for it; also Morello bashing the victim's face on his car has been changed to attacking him with a tire iron.
The victim's name has now been revealed to be Joey Crackers, a boxer who worked for Morello.
The victim's car was a Bolt Model B Fordor in the original, while in the remake, his car is a Bolt Ace.
Morello's car was a Silver Fletcher in the original, while in the remake, he drives a Celeste Mark 5.

Comparison - Fair Play [Side by Side]
Fairplay
In the original, when Tommy goes to Lucas Bertone's garage, the race car is performing well. But in the remake, the race car is damaged by Lucas.
In the original, Tommy drives back to Salieri's after the race by himself, whilst in the remake, he drives there with Paulie while having the alternate option to drive to a gentleman's club...this is also a missable achievement ...
missable achievement ...(for the missable achivement just follow my route from remake)
Instead of a party at the bar, the party is now on the grounds of the actual racecourse instead, which the player can interact with other characters

Comparison - Sarah & Better Get Used to it [Side by Side]

I've decided to combine these 2 missions because in the Original it feels way more connected as they are one single mission compared to remake where they feel so different.

Sarah
In the original, when Tommy and Sarah goes to her home, and they end up spending the night in bed. In the remake, Tommy and Sarah are sitting on the couch.
In the original, Johnny was absent during the street hoodlums' attack. Whilst in the remake, he was present.

Better Get Used to It
In the original, Johnny and Billy's getaway car was a Schubert Extra Six Fordor, in the remake, the getaway car is the Bolt V8.
In the original, Tommy and Paulie use a Lassiter V16 Phaeton to chase down Johnny and Billy, while in the remake, they use a Smith V12.
Some context present in the original game has been removed. Whilst Tommy is still hesitant in shooting Billy in the remake, Tommy and Paulie talking about getting used to killing has been removed in the remake.
In the original, Paulie's gun ran out of bullets before he had the chance to shoot Johnny. In the remake, he only manages to shoot one bullet into Johnny.

Comparison - Whor3 and Priest/The Saint and the Sinner [Side by Side]

The ♥♥♥♥♥
The mission begins outside Salieri's Bar in the original, while in the remake it begins in the bar's conference room.
Originally, Michelle was Sarah's friend. In the remake, Sam asks Tommy to spare her life, disobeying Salieri.
In the original, Tommy meets Michelle in her bathtub, whereas in the remake she is in the bedroom.
This mission along with The Priest were merged into The Saint and the Sinner.

The Priest
In the original, Johnny escapes the shootout alive. In the remake, however, is killed by Sam.
Originally, Johnny is at the church uninjured. In the remake, he has a broken arm.
The shootout is now much larger and requires the player to go upstairs to eliminate all of the rivals.
As stated above, this mission was merged with The ♥♥♥♥♥ as The Saint and the Sinner.
In the original, when Tommy gave the money to the Priest, to fix the church, the Priest says to "Thank you my son", but in the remake, the Priest says to Tommy, "I don't need your blood money".
Also you escape with Sam now instead of escaping alone

Comparison - A Trip To The Country [Side by Side]

Intermezzo Two
In the original, the conversation between Frank and Tommy focused on Sarah. In the remake, the conversation now revolves around a dog.

A Trip to the Country
In the original, when Tommy drives to Salieri's Warehouse, he uses the Bolt V8. In the remake, he uses the Shubert Luxe.
In the original, the crew were chased by a Bolt V8 Fordor car alongside Shubert Extra Six Police cars. While in the remake, the crew were chased by an armored Bulworth Sentry alongside Shubert Luxe Police cars, and Haverley Tomahawk P police motorcycles.
There is now unlimited ammo when shooting the police vehicles in the final chase.

Omerta
In the original, Salieri informed Tommy of the situation in the bar's conference room. But in the remake, they meet at a park.

Visiting Rich People
In the original, the mission begins and ends at Salieri's Bar, but in the remake, the mission takes on Beach Hill. And the mission ends in Salvatore's home.

In the original, Tommy and Salvatore go to steal the Silver Fletcher during the escape from the Villa, but in the remake, Tommy and Salvatore steal the Lassiter V16 Sedan.

Comparison - Bon Appétit! [Side by Side]

The vibe when the gangsters come in remake is much better in my opinion and hits way more realistic but regarding gameplay i still prefer the OG as it seems more challenging ...

Intermezzo Three
Whereas in the original, a newspaper article headlining the end of prohibition is shown, this was removed in the remake.

Bon Appétit!
The area behind the bar is now expanded and there is a far greater shootout.
Carlo's apartment is originally in the Works Quarter, whereas now it is in Holbrook.
Carlo will try to kill Tommy after he got out of his apartment in the original, while in the remake he will only escape.
In the original, after killing Carlo, a few guys try to kill Tommy.
Tommy originally shot Carlo, whereas now it is Salieri who proceeds to stomp on his head and face.
Sergio originally is the one doing the torture to the dock worker when Morello is coming to see, but in the remake the roles are reversed.
In the original, the dock worker dies from his wounds. While in the remake, Morello shoots him in the head.
The dock worker's name has now been revealed to be Gordy, the union leader.

Comparison - Happy Birthday! [Side by Side]

Happy Birthday!
Tommy originally goes to the site of the Lost Heaven Queen and takes a sailor outfit from a random open building to board the vessel. He now knocks a sailor unconscious in a restroom to steal his outfit whilst Paulie and Sam watch him board.
Tommy originally had to clean a toilet and return the key to the skipper in favor of gaining access to the firearm, whereas now the skipper provides him the key in the bottom deck.
There is now a fistfight with a random NPC who recognizes Tommy. The player is given the option to throw the body overboard after the fight.
Rather than shoot the target on the same platform at the speech or on the raised platform, Tommy now goes to the highest deck, there is also an extended shootout between Tommy and the guards on board.
Comparison - You Lucky Bastard! [Side by Side]

You Lucky Bastard!
In the original, there were five assassination attempts on Sergio. But in the remake, there are only three.
In the original, when Tommy goes to Sergio's house, he plants the bomb under the car and goes to smoke a cigarette as he waits until he sees Sergio's mistress get blown up. In the remake, he plants the bomb under the car and goes over to the telephone booth to call Sarah and sees the woman get into the car and is blown up as he is in the middle of his conversation.
In the original, Tommy chases Sergio to the docks and kills him with a headshot. Tommy then says to his corpse, "You Lucky Bastard", and leaves the docks. In the remake, Tommy corners Sergio in a room filled with fuel barrels which are leaking. Sergio and Tommy both find out they are out of bullets and at a stalemate until Tommy takes out his lighter, lights the fuel on the ground and runs. The train depot explodes with Sergio left inside, killing him.
In the original, Tommy chases Sergio with the black Guardian Terraplane Coupe, in the remake, he chases with the Haverley Tomahawk motorcycle.
In the original, Tommy says to Sergio's corpse "You Lucky Bastard", but in the remake, he says to Sergio before he kills him, "You ain't that lucky, bastard".
Comparison - Crème De La Crème [Side by Side]

Crème De La Crème
In the original, when Tommy, Paulie and Sam go to kill Morello, and chase him to the Airport, Tommy uses the Tommy Gun to shoot down Morello's plane, in the remake, when Tommy, Paulie and Sam are chasing Morello, his gang and the police are escorting him, and after Tommy shoots his plane, it crashes somewhere in the city. Tommy, Paulie and Sam go to the plane, and Tommy shoots Morello to death, and Salieri saying "See you on the other side, Marcu", and the cutscene ends.
In the original you had 3 endings ...one you will see it after the original game is finished and the other is just very rare scenarios where you can kill Morello in the chase and without a scene you just have to return back to Salieri
Comparison - Election Campaign [Side by Side]

Intermezzo Four
In the original, Tommy gave out an old photo of Don Peppone with young Morello and Salieri before telling the story of Peppone's death and its consequence to Detective Norman. In the remake, the roles are reversed.

Election Campaign
In the original, the mission begins and ends in Salieri's Bar, but in the remake, it ends in the Angelo House.
Vincenzo originally gave Tommy the sniper rifle. Whereas in the remake, the rifle is now hidden on the observation deck.
The politician's name was originally Mr. Sewer. In the remake, his name is now Hank Turnbull.
In the original, Tommy had the choice to kill a worker and hide his body to avoid the police.
Tommy now falls from the observation deck in an accident and passes out, whereas in the original he simply walked back down the stairs to leave the premises.
Where Tommy originally could leave the grounds and only shoot the wild dogs blocking the exit, this has now changed to a high wanted status from Lost Heaven Police Department once he regains conciseness, and he now needs to shoot his way out as well.
The original can be very hard for the first time because you don't have a map to guide and don't know where the enemies are.
Comparison - Just For Relaxation [Side by Side]

You can see that in the original my friend took the meaning of relaxtion to a whole new level...you can notice the freedom of play ..in the current era of gaming his action might lead into failure......

Just for Relaxation
In the original, this mission took place during the evening, whereas in the remake, this mission takes place during night-time.
In the original, this mission took place at the Docks, but in the remake, this mission takes place at the Warehouse, where Paulie and Sam go to the chief, and Tommy goes to steal the "cigars".
In the original, Tommy has the option to take a bunch of crates to the loading dock before dealing with the cigar crates.
In the original, Tommy was unaware about the diamonds until Paulie showed them to him during the unloading. In the remake, Salieri mentions the diamonds, claiming the job was to steal them, but Tommy and Paulie find drugs while unloading the crates.
In the original, the mission ended with at Salieri's warehouse, whilst in the remake, it ended on an elevated train.also in original Tommy and Paulie discuss their plan in the next mission. In the remake, this was changed into a cutscene and moved to the end of this mission.
In the original you just knew the crates area while in remake you have to search for them including dates of arrival.
In the original Tommy is wearing his taxi outfit. In remake his wearing suit with a jacket.
In original you do all the work by yourself. In remake Sam is helping you.
Comparison - Moonlighting [Side by Side]

Moonlighting
In the original, Tommy and Paulie ride an elevated train and discuss their plan. In the remake, this was changed into a cutscene and moved to the end of the previous mission.
In the original, when Tommy and Paulie are planning the bank robbery, Paulie tells Tommy to buy weapons at Yellow Pete's, and get a fast car from Lucas Bertone, this being the Trautenberg Model J. In the remake, Tommy and Paulie already have the Shotgun and the Tommy Gun, and when they are escaping from the bank, they use an Eckhart Crusader.
In the original, the mission consisted of the plan and the robbery, whereas in the remake, the mission only consists of the robbery.
Comparison - The Death of Art [Side by Side]

Once again we have the liberty of freedoom ..as you can see my friend killed a side but yet an iconic character from mafia 1 and the missions still continues ..this thing would had been 100% sure mission failure in modern era of gaming. which one ?! well watch it and find out :)

The Death of Art
The mission begins in Tommy's home and he drives to see Paulie, whereas in the original it begins with a cutscene at Paulie's apartment.
Where Sam originally told Tommy to meet him at the Lost Heaven Art Gallery, Tommy now invites Sam there.
The police no longer attend Paulie's apartment, whereas in the original several officers pass Tommy on the stairs whilst he is leaving.
Like the previous mission, the player is no longer given the option to go to Yellow Pete's for weaponry.
Sam originally threatened Tommy that he would be an outcast and would have to hide, whereas Sam now offers Tommy an option to let him live and that he will cover for him. This also changes where Sam originally stated that "friendship ain't worth s*it".
There is now more conflict between Tommy and Detective Norman, especially with Norman being unconfident in Tommy's ability to testify.
For more difference check the video :)

Epilogue
The scene where Tommy discusses his imprisonment has now been replaced with his daughter's wedding.
In the original, Tommy did not expect his fate. In the remake, however, he now immediately understands why the gentlemen are there.
Tommy originally dies instantly after being killed from the gunshot, now he is surrounded by his family as he is dying.
The ending monologue's words are significantly changed from the original and are shortened. Similar to Intermezzo One, a lot of the meaning and narrative has been removed.
